[320i] Replace mechanical waterpump

So I’ll be doing an oil pan gasket change soon on my E91 2007, 160.000km.
Everyone seems to change their waterpump whilst the subframe is off, but most are electrical. Since this car has a mechanical pump driven by the belt, is it necessary to change it? Or can i replace some parts instead of the entire pump? (which would save serious money).

Is the pump leaking (coolant or power steering fluid as it is driven together on the N46)?

Not as far as i can tell. But the whole underside is covered in oil from the oil pan. Replacing the pump gaskets would be for future leaks.

My advice is to work from the top to the bottom. Oil dribbles down and is blown backwards by wind and the radiator fan. It would not surprise me if every N46 leak is present on yours. I usually tackle the sump last as it's a pain to do without a hoist.

Yeah i’ve done that. Just about every gasket in the engine bay has been replaced. It was leaking at the oil cooler, vcg, vacuumpump, etc.
Just did the intake manifold and ccv this weekend, so its time to go below.
