Only way I could see AWD being worth it is if you put snow tires on it.

But I had a A4 and a 330ci and i can easily say that the 330ci with snow tires handled better in the snow than the AWD A4 with all seasons.

For me awd isnt worth it since most of the roads here are cleaned pretty quickly. I rather have more fun in the summer than worry about a few snow days during winter.

Driving both back to back and deciding for yourself is the only way to go...good job. Its easy to get caught up in all the forum chatter.

Kenny, I also live in chicago. Just my opinion, but get the rear wheel drive car and buy a set of snows for the winter. BMW is a rear-wheel drive company. Even though their all-wheel is good, it's not part of their car DNA (imo). Snows will work great here in winter and you'll save some wear and tear on your summer tires. Especially if you're thinking 335, I would guess you're going to enjoy the feel of rwd more. BTW-all of my friends who do the snow tire route say it's better than when they had 4wd vehicles. The tires matter more than the awd. Good luck. Great choice going with bmw over a Mercedes. Benz cars are for people who think 'old'.

@ last two posts:

Look at the OP date date: 09-18-2007, 10:44 PM. Good information in this thread, but it's way old to be dugg out and bumped like this. (Although I think my replying, too, is not helping the situation...)

Knauz...

Chicago's a great place for buying bimmers. Worked with a guy, Greg Larson, at Knauz. Great Sales Associate. No BS. Great Showroom. I highly recommend Knauz - best experience I've ever had buying a car.

Now for the car.

Get the X. And get the winter package. I live in WI and I love it. You hit a black ice patch in Chicago with your rears without X and you'll be stuck. Seen it happen to friends pulling out of parallel all the time with plain ol i's

Also - GET THE TIRE INSURANCE. After last years pot holes I replaced two tires and have a slow leak in a third. All free.

One other thing, if you're a city driver, get the bluetooth. The handsfree is amazing.

maybe I am late on this but having already the 997 Targe isn't the 335 kind of a duplication ?? Get something else, maybe an nice SUV, X3, X5 etc.

Driving my LX with Blizzaks during the winter months and the sense of freedom and no fear is great, I don't care if it snows 20", or it's icy, I can still go anywhere I want anytime.

Get an SUV and keep the Targa for the summer.

cheers

Laurel BMW, Westmont tops my list in the best quality of service in Chicago BMW Dealerships. MotorWerks suxxxx. They just eat ur money and their paperwork is hideous. I am not sure about perillo bmw but I heard a lot of negative reviews and they are not at all professional over the phone. They make u feel like they are doing a favor for u.
