Hahaha no worries I can relate. But we have a special blend oil that we require for our engines. Sort of like how the bmw twin power oil is specially formulated for our engines.

Oh and stay away from royal purple. I smoked my turbocharger bearings on my old Subaru STI. But from personal experiences Castrol has been pretty good, Mobil and appearently penzoil has come a long way.

Valvoline blue specifically designed for cummins provided positive results in test cell on smaller engines that my friends tested here.

This youtube comparison between the Castro Edge and BMW is interesting
not sure if it is true.

I've been using Castro Edge Titanium ($28 - $32 for 5 quarts @Walmart) even before I see this youtube (VW TDI engines' OEM oil is Castro Edge)

Now I'm confused per your comments of shell oils, even the fully synthetics. Isn't the dealer oil made by shell? I must confess that I'm running Rotella T6 but changing at 3000 miles. I only run about 6000 miles per year. Your comments about the turbos is worth pause.

I second that. No matter how many friends I tell, most of them still want to change to Royal Purple. I don't get it.
