40-45k Serpentine belt breaks, common issue
hey folks, anyone noticed this ? A lot of ppl have reported this on the X5, is there a reason for this anyone can relate to ?

My belt didn't break, but the crankshaft pulley the belt goes around broke. Had to get the pulley and belt replaced. Car had just over 100K miles when it happened.

It is important to note that today's EPDM rubber belts do not usually fail in the same way as neoprene belts have in the past. Material loss (rib depth) is a better indicator. You can buy a plastic belt depth gauge pretty cheap. I'm in the parts biz and learned this from my old Gates rep.
