Inxguy and sleeper, I'm not taking sides here. I will throw out the adage that "you pays your money and take your chances". At the end of the day, we make our own choices. The oil analyses submitted by many members show a 10 to 12k interval is alright from a chemistry perspective. Inxguy stated we are pissing our money away if we are doing early changes. I'd like to say that many Americans piss money away in a variety of ways (Starbucks, pedicures, lawn service, maid service, etc). I don't do any of those things and mow my own grass still as well as do my own oil changes. I do change the oil earlier than many of you here and I like to keep my engine as clean inside as possible. I don't drive my D a whole lot so my changes are only every 7 months. So on a dollars basis, I'm likely spending no more money than anyone else here. I buy the OEM oil filters from husker online so some costs are saved there and the Rotella T6 is cheap these days. $40 in oil and $11 for filter is nothing compared to having someone cut your grass all summer. Trying to say that we all splurge in different ways and sleeper is happy with his oil change interval (and so am I). If I changed oil at 12,000 miles, it would be every 2 years. So sir, not me. My car sees short trips so condensation within crankcase needs to be kept in check. I'm glad to say we just did a round trip to New Orleans to get system fully purged of condensation and battery well charged.

Perhaps I need to get my mindset out of the TDI world and into the BMW world It seems like not many people here are putting a lot of miles on their car (Let's admit it, 150k on a diesel isn't ****) I think the most important thing is to actually be up on the maintenance, oil is a personal choice like anything else. As long as it's getting changed with quality oil and a quality filter that's all we should be worried about. I hope people keep sending their samples into Blackstone, I love reading those oil reports

I decided to do this oil analysis a few months back when a few people on this forum were discussing oil and how Rotella T6 wasn't a good oil choice for our engine because it doesn't have the LL04 cert. That it wouldn't hold up for long intervals and that BMW oil is better.

Well, here's an oil analysis from my E70 35d. ALL emissions are intact, to include the DPF and SCR. I also run a JBD @100%. In addition to the 11,849 miles driven, more than 2k miles were spent towing my 335d (on an open trailer) to and from multiple track events and to BPC in NC, which obviously stresses the engine/ oil more.

That said, I would never run oil this long, especially on a vehicle I plan on keeping for a long time however, I did this time to get some data.

I've run Rotella T6 and Archoil for the last 73k miles in this engine. I've changed the oil every 5-7500 miles, I add Archoil 9100 during each change and I use genuine BMW oil filters.

So there you have it. I would love to see 11-12k mile analysis on BMW oil... anyone?
Sorry to revive an old thread, however, I am interested in your experience with the Archoil friction modifier. In your experience, would you say it is worth the extra $30 per oil change? Does Blackstone seem to have an opinion on the product, did they recommed it?

I'm considering adding it to this oil change for this season as I will have my car at Gingerman and Autobahn for a few events this year as well as two 1/2 mile event. I like the idea of having a friction modifier in there but I am always weary of snake oil products.

I'm a huge believer in AMSOIL. Oil takes a whoopen. I use it in everything. Doesnt break down that easily. It was great during dragracing and motocross. I also like amsoil cetanium in the diesel.

im pretty sure this golden elixir only comes in 5w40/15w40.

BMW has pretty loose bearing clearances, you can run 5w40 no problem.

just put some into my N52 the other day. the lifters are very quiet now.

Mobil 1 is unarugably the worst oil on the market it shears down a weight every 2-3000 miles. castrol isnt much better.

this rotella stuff holds up extremely well to shearing.

Interesting information, in other sites I have noticed that LL04 has bad vaporization deposits, meaning it probably has a high NOACK rating.

If the Rotella or a 0w40 has a lower NOACK, you can say that the DPF is seeing LESS ash, because less of the oil is getting vaporized into the exhaust stream/intake.

LL04 seems like a spec that came out at the time of high ash oils, back when ZDDP was used extensively. Nowadays with better base stocks, oils don't need as much additives.

I purchase Archoil 9100 by the gallon, which is a bit cheaper. The last time I bought it I paid $219 shipped. It can now be purchased for $199 on Amazon. That's roughly $12 per oil change.

Rotell T6 $19.99-$22.99 x 2 (Usually purchase a few when i find it cheap)
Oil filters $15-$20 (BMW, MAHLE, MANN and I try to buy in bulk)
7oz Achoil $12

It cost me $67-78ish per oil change. I think $12 worth of Archoil is worth it. I run it in everything.

Hope this helps an sorry for the late response.

T6 is so good it's recommended in gassers too.

Been running it in a gasser for 36,000 miles.

Switched to Rotella T6 today and one thing i noticed is the smell is more tolerable than my old oil from my exhaust. Overall seems like a good switch from my previous oil.

I have been on T6 for years. Have been monitoring somewhat elevated (but dropping) silica levels so am sending a sample to Blackstone at every OCI. Air filter is clean, there are no obvious intake leaks. Shrug.
