LOWER Turbo 335d <-> 35d

Hi, if anyone looked into compatibility of LOWER turbos from E90 to E70? I know the X5 35d have second (low pressure) Egr system and there is a port on lower turbo for it, but if E70 is completely deleted and needs a lower turbo can the one from E90 be used?
Of course Bmw part numbers are different because of Egr port but do the turbos actually have different geometry?

After quick review (pic below) it looks like 335d lower was used in Euro version - 30sd which is also a twin turbo but whiteout such a strict emissions as our NA 35d. But i still would like to hear from other members on compatibility.

They're the same. You'd have to block the LP EGR port however.

The oil drain line is different between E70 and E90. This is likely due to E70 oil pan difference but not totally sure if other things cause this too. Might not apply here but be ready to possibly have to adapt the E90 oil drain on there. I just did the oil lines while doing the E90 VCG and vacuum lines. I bought the drain line parts for E90. I'm gearing up to do same work on our E70 and was buying oil lines #2 and #3 and decided to get drain line parts too just in case I find a leak there. I also found the upper gasket on oil drain is different p/n. Hopefully that flange is same or near same to allow the E70 drain line to bolt up to the E90 LP turbo's drain. Good luck and let us know.

I didn't even thought of that as in my mind the turbo (cartridge) outlet/drain flange should be exactly the same and interchangeable between two cartridges...

Making sure you got my point. I'm not saying the flanges are different at drain. I'm saying the part # is different. I should have both gaskets and will compare in next few days if I remember to.

Im totally confused of what you are saying, the cartridge (turbo) outputs should be the same, ive checked and the gaskets are the same.
The physical drain is different between E70 and E90 platform, no doubt bout it! But drain can be reused if cartridge from E90 going to E70 or vise versa....

I screwed you up on which flange i was talking about. Indeed, the lower flange gasket is same p/n. The UPPER flange p/n on the oil drain line uses a different p/n for gasket. You're not working up there so shouldn't affect you. Good luck with the swap

I used same cross reference to learn which oil line parts I could swap over to E70. That lower gasket is a go!
