AUTODOC seals/gaskets parts

Hi guys,

Wanting to order some new seals for my N54.

There is 2 different materials listed on AUTODOC for the Elring Oil Filter Housing seal.

FPM (fluoride rubber) or HNBR (hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber)

Which one is the right one to use?

There seems to be at least 2 different part numbers for most seals on there for other parts like the oil cooler seal, some have no description of material.

Any advice on which ones to choose?

For anyone that is needing to know.

I have looked up BMW OEM material and it states a revised product material of FPM (fluoride rubber)

I’m guessing it was changed to this from the other material, which would explain AUTODOC listing two different items for Elring. Seems strange they would still manufacture an old design but I have ordered the FPM seal to give that a go.

That figures. Viton (FPM) generally has wider operating conditions than HNBR, so likely to last a bit longer.
