New JBL DSP

JBL DSP4086

I think this has been on the market for maybe 2 months?

I would venture to say it is a long awaited update to the JBL MS-8.

This one has more power and both 2 & 4 ohm.

It also looks as if it hooks up to the system and additional amps much the same as its predecessor. The software that it comes with looks to me on pan with other brand names like Alpine & JL Audio.

I like the price point at $399.00.

Only 5 watts more pre channel than the MS-8
Most of the other products in this catagory have more.

Seems too good to be true for $400? Reasonably sized amp + DSP, comparable to let's say a Match 62DSP in terms of output? How's the JBL tuning software compared to Match/Fischer's?

I don't have the new JBL DSP. I just noticed it came out a couple of months ago. I think it's JBL's first new DSP since the famed MS-8. I did look at JBL & Crutchfield's website. The software seems extremely customizable. It reminds me a little of Alpine's software for there DSP. JL Audio also has a similar set up too with their TWK - 88, in terms of software. The JBL has more power than the Alpine & JL Audio DSP. I don't think that's a real concern to most people who run a DSP though.

If you couple this with a JL Audio 6 channel amp & and a separate 5 channel for the mid-base & trunk sub, you'll have a sweet sounding car stereo to be sure.

The point of buying and AMP/Dsp is not to have to buy another amp except
maybe for a sub. That is why I would be looking for at least 50 amps per channel.
The audtiotec fisher DSP software has a large support base and is pretty
sophisticated. One of the troubles with the old MS-8 was limited ability to custom
tune it .

Agreed with ctuna, this is useful as a combo amp/DSP unit and looks to be great for an entry-level upgrade, compared to a Match DSP amp for at least double the price, or a DSP unit + separate amplifier. As you mentioned, the Fischer software is well-supported and has preconfigured settings/templates for a lot of cars which is attractive and why I was curious about the JBL software. I might have to add this to my eventual audio upgrade list, it's probably worth the cost savings to spend a some extra time messing with the DSP settings.

The DSP settings are wide open and extremely customizable. I'd probably use the MS-8 settings found in the forum for starters.

This would be ideal for the logic 7 speakers. The Individual audio speakers need more watts to run efficiently. 75w per channel seems to be a sweet spot for the individual audio speakers.

I'm not a big fan of the logic 7 mid base subs at all.

a few options are out there...

I have a base stereo car unfortunately, but that's good feedback, thanks.
