Hi Guys,

Just recently purchased a 330d E92. Says the average fuel consumption is 6.2L / 100 km, and this guy after aggressive driving was at 7.4L / 100km: http://www.caradvice...mw-330d-review/

Mine, as a relatively conservative driver, who drives for 30 minutes total to work and back a day is at 11L / 100 km as an average.

Doesn't sound right does it?

Question is; who are the mechanics you trust to work on your BMW's in Sydney?

DPF may be congested due failed thermostats
check what is you coolant temperature via hidden istrument panel test 7.0
if temperature will be below 75C after 30 min of driving - thermostat is not working and DPF regeneration will not be activated

Is your question related to your statements that precede it?

And have you tried resetting your trip computer after filling up to get the average consumption for the next tank?

Yes I've tried that. The average consumption is 11.9L/100km.

It's done 35 thousand Kms. I've only recently found out about DPF while browsing around this forum. After a quick Google search, it seems like this part needs to be replaced after 100kms.

My apologies, I should've mentioned the following when initially posting; the car went through a repair in the second week of owning it. The report I received back from the certified BMW mechanic shop reads "Found hose from PCV to intake has come apart at connector. Replaced PCV pipe and tested ok".

I suspect that might have something to do with the fuel consumption. Right or wrong?

That pipe shouldn't make such a difference to consumption, but it would make your engine bay smokey and reduce power a bit.

Most likely DPF and/or thermostats. What is the coolant temp after half an hour of driving? Also, you should work out economy using the actual amount of fuel put in since last fill and the km covered, as the OBC can sometimes be inaccurate.

google for instrument panel tests and check coolant temperature
if hose was not not solid there check engine signal and error code in DDE ECU

I have to literally floor it at every chance I get in order to get 11.9l/100k for my 330d. Something is not right there for sure. DPF will be the first to check. Do u drive on highways to and back from work or is it city traffic? Maybe do a manual check on consumption too rather than relying on trip computer to see if any difference.

Here's the coolant and air intake temperature readings from the hidden menu.

I drove the car for 30 minutes or so, parked, and took both pictures straight away.

Just did a quick Google search and found out that coolant should be at around the 90C mark. So this seems fine; hence no problem with thermostat right?

That leaves the likely problem to be with the DPF presumably?

coolant temp is ok, but better to check this parameter on highway too
whats is build date ? do this car have M57N2(pre-LCI) or N57(LCI) engine
second one do not have EGR thermostat, first has
you need also get INPA cable and check DDE ECU for stored faults

Sure, I'll check it on the highway tomorrow. I should be able to get close to an hour of driving. It's LCI.

Just looked up the INPA cable on Ebay. Goes for about $50. Will consider this if it might help resolve problem. Need to ask mates if they might have one beforehand.

Thank you for getting involved. I've been wanting to chat to a fellow 330d owner. One of my main concerns is that when I step on the gas, even quite lightly, my consumption gauge shoots up to 20 and stays there in the lower gears. Is this typically what happens for you as well? HFM values came with delay
this car definitely has DPF
need to check ECU faults and check if EGR valve stuck in open state
maybe previous owner did not changed oil at all during 30k mls

Instantaneous consumption when accelerating, even lightly, will always scare the bajeezus out of you. At a steady speed in a high gear, you should be seeing around 4.5L/100km.

high consumption on acceleration is not problem
problem is that consumption activates with more than usual delay and lowers much later than gear switched

Hi, I just noticed your avg gauge says km/l . (not sure how you got that but pretty sure mine says L/100kms)

i.e. 10.2 kms for 1 L..
while this doesn't drop it down that much..
this actually equates to 9.8 L/ 100kms.

so your earlier statement of 11.9km/L could actually be 8.4L / 100kms.

also note your avg speed. i'm in traffic all day and i'm no where near the rated avg.

Yep you're right. It's a rookie mistake. He changed the unit settings to KM/L.. change it back to L/100km and the figures should make more sense
