VIN Mismatch with CIC Advice

Hi All

I have come to the conclusion after reading forums and websites that my E90 ive purchased and had for 2 weeks, has a retrofitted system and there is a VIN mismatch (sat nav greyed out).

What tool for ease of use is best to fix this? Any pointers or step by step guides I can use? Ive learnt the basic bit of coding but would like some assistance. I have the relevant cable and laptop configuration (DCAN Cable) and Win 7 Laptop.

I have teamviewer running as well if anyone would be so kind to see if there is something obvious on my CIC have a greyed out 'Sat Nav' option.

Thanks

its not enabled by default. you need fsc code to enable nav. best thing to do is to virginize your cic with cic pather then upload all fsc codes to your cic to make all functions work.
search for cic patcher v2
or maybe contact Nickco43.

thanks Gray.

so I would use cic patcher to Virginize my cic unit...and then use fsc codes to reconfigure my cic? are fsc codes for cic specific for the car? I guess they would contain vin details to match.

I might contact nicko as I'm not overly confident and need more advice and guidance before trying to make things worse, which is what normally happens to me

cic patcher will virginize your cic to blank cert state, no certificate but once its patched it will accept fsc codes to enable all the features on cic such as bmw apps , navi, voice commands.
you will need fsc tool2 (software)to upload fsc code to cic . all can be done with dcan cable.
https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=23198.
thats how i did mine when i removed mine cic emulator and enabled bmw apps. you have to be on latest cic firmware in order to make this work.

have fun.

if you do not want to bother with software i can sell you emulator with plug-and-play harness from that topic
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1483482
all you need then is to remove cic , install harness and put cic back
after that navigation will be active

Thanks Gray. Would creating new FSC codes be discussed in that thread too?

Thanks for reply PTpending, I heard and read emulators don't last very long. I'd rather get the actual unit configured. I just see it as a challenge I need to accomplish at the moment. Thanks again for offer

These are your options:

Patch (Easily the best option)
- As stated with CIC Patcher. Need to update CIC first if not on latest.

Original Activation:
-Virginize CIC
-Put original VIN in CIC
-Load FSC and Certificates (Repair FSC set from asap)

Script Activation:
-Quik and easy but not the best solution.(Mapupdate procedure is different and 9C apps not possible)

Donor VIN:
-Easy but not cheapest due to need of hardware
-Use the original VIN and FSC from CIC
-Need to install canbus emulator

thanks sensible.

the first and easiest method is most appealing. However, I have just one final question (hopefully) in how would I update my cic to latest version? Very likely that it's not to be honest.

Also, as mentioned I have a FSC file and certs from a guy on gps underground that I paid for that should be loaded with fstool 32. However, when loading them I get an error in fstool for failing to execute the command. I'm not sure if it's because i need to virginize cic before hand like you said but the sent info didn't mention doing it and I'm not sure how to proceed with that.

thanks as always. I have more hope that I can fix this myself now.

Thanks

Find out what version your CIC is first and let's go from there:

Use NCS Expert and just choose CIC from the module list. You don't have to code anything.

Look at the image. NCS Expert is using CIC C10

C10 is the revision.

Hi Sensible

Currently sitting in the car,

CIC08 seems to be my version (attached).

I'm guessing it's old and that there is a Base version to be ok. Which explains why I keep getting failing execute messages on fstool

Sorry, actually can you perform an actual coding job. Like codierdaten_lesen

Nothing will be written. See if it changes from 08.

Hi mate.

I've activated the digital velocity display so far. hopefully will get round to auto fold mirrors one lock from remote tonight and angel eyes for welcome lights.

I'd love to be able to do the firmware myself but I think the cost for cables etc is a stumbling block.

Hi Sensible

Ill give this a go tomorow. Sorry been so busy lately.

If my firmware is too old to get this sorted, i guess its an update via the MOST cable? Would my next best bet be emulator instead?

thanks

Update - So I have revision 09 of CIC. Guess thats still too old?

I also ran FSC TOOLS and got the following screenshot. I understand that they should all be green and accepted, any ideas of where to go next?

thank you all

How can I virginize CIC without using the patcher?
I can't use the patcher because I have CIC.08

TIA

Update your firmware to CIC.C1A is the only way

I mean without using the patcher. Is it possible to FTP into CIC and manually delete files?

Anyway, I was able to fetch the 1b file using the flash drive method.

copied that .sh file to a flash drive, plug it into the glovebox USB, and waited 20 secs. Then I was able to fetch the 1b file.

Flashing a CIC can only be done with an ICOM programmer. It takes over an hour and is not worth the effort unless you already own an ICOM or know a coder who does.
