iaknown, like the plate.

For test fitting, getting access to the exhaust manifold side and the bolts is a pain. This might help a little for those looking into test fitting this piece.

Regarding sizing, I gave you the wrong formula, lol. To reduce the cross sectional area by 60%, it should be based off [0.6•(Pie•r^2)]. Or if you tell me the outlet diameter I can calculate it for you.

PM sent. Thanks,
Exhaust manifold diameter is .900" So I came up with .380 diameter. Please confirm.

Looks like we have a couple guys willing to try these out soon so stay tuned everyone. I also have an idea for a flange to totally remove the EGR cooler but I really don't see a need. Plus then you'd have to come up with a coolant bypass. But if there is enough interest for it I can look into making something....

For 60% EGR reduction, the diameter works out to 0.57".
Please make the diameter of the EGR flow opening to 0.6".

0.6" opening should be reducing the EGR flow by 50-60%.

Thanks,

I'm new to this forum, Just bought a 2009 335d w/52k miles- currently at the dealer having both turbos replaced due to an oil leak going to the turbo! BMWNA in picking up 85% of the tab (because ?? this might be a reoccurring problem?) About $900 cost to me.

I have been worried about this carbon problem and trying to gather info on possible cures.
Would the results be much different if the EGR was not blocked? (maybe would still clean but at a slower rate?) Along with the power gains a 30% to 50% meth inject has a cleaning effect...Right?

Turbos are covered by emissions' warranty up to 70k miles in case that helps. Hopefully the problem was caused by emissions related issues.

I would expect a fair difference. Why NOT block the EGR? Better MPG, cleaner engine, no increase in DEF use.

probably

it sure seems that way. Blocking the EGR alone doesnt seem like it should do any cleaning, unless the oil blowing through the intake is trapping the carbon and washing it through. I dont think I burn enough oil for that to be the case though unless it is really effective. I burn less than a quart every 12,000 miles

Just installed egr block off from iaknown.. Everything fits nice and it's a really easy job.. Hardest part is removing the intake pipe going to bottom turbo.. I don't like the plastic stuff

Hopefully I am not going to be asking a dumb question here, but when you install the EGR block do you have to reprogram it or do you just throw the same code over and over....and not worry about it? Like another post not too long ago, I don't have any CBU right now, but it started the minute I left the dealer a week ago

so is it ecotune the one to use when deleting the EGR that way? or is it another, as it doesn't seem to me like the JBD does it.

Nice. Since you did the work already, have a quick step by step DIY? It will help out a lot, since I have to install mine next. Thanks

You guys think we should start a new thread for the EGR block-off install?

Yeh, but may be differentiate it between the EGR cooler inlet block off and EGR to intake block, or whatever to call them to make more sense.

This the topic you mentioned, Hooper.

The dealer charges about $5000 to do the cleaning you did on your car.

question i ask but Im trying to make sense out of this and PLEASE iaknown and anyone out there help us on this. I was wondering ok there are two plugs one from the exhaust turbo thru the EGR then thru the intake correct, ok then why dont we just use ONE plug the one from the turbo exhaust i.e. DPF and let the other one unplugged, will it throw a code or can or not be performed adequately Im really intrigued by this
