It is based on the G01, some upcoming M models based on "G" platforms are going to be given an F9X designation (F90 based on G30 etc.)

So why do I see a 'competition' description for the M2 and than I see a 'CS' M2 folder?
Clearly CS stands for Clubsport not Competition. Are we getting two variants of the M2?? |

Could merely be what I pointed out in post #1006 of this thread.

That's what I'm thinking.. competition might be a slight power bump and some carbon parts or something. CS might be the S55 equipped beast that everyone wants..

DCT, SMG and manuals use the same type code. Automatic with torque converter get the "auto" type code. The reason why you see both type codes is just the way BMW structures the type codes. They are just reserved as placeholders. It does not mean there will be an auto version.

Thanks for that insight. I currently have an E93 M3 and I'm very much looking forward to what's in-store with the 6-series, given the more sporty approach. By mentioning the E9 are you implying that the 6-series coupe will likely be closer in size to the E9 or just the idea that it will be more performance-oriented than the current 6-series? I would love for it to be smaller/lighter, which is why I am asking... Thanks very much, Jeremy |

So according to this both the M4 CS and M2 CS (or competition) come with the option of manual or DCT. Both options to make everyone happy? I think this indicates that BMW wants to sell more volume of these cars, otherwise they would limit it to a DCT or manual only.

Look for example at the F82 M4 GTS: we only know of the M-DCT version, while the list also mentions a manual transmission version:

Definitely not the same from a marketing and sales perspective.

So friggin psyched to see that the return of the 8 series is confirmed!! BMW is going back to the big leagues again. Hopefully they follow through with an M8 or M860i to take on the S65/SL65/DB11/BCGT. Nothing says luxury GT quite like a V12 engine.

I believe the guy who was talking about the M2 CS made a correction and said he meant competition and not CS

This thread is like a conversation of amateur bird watchers trying to identify a bird by its droppings.
1. Most models get both MECH and AUT typcodes - this means NOTHING. 2. Every new version of this file adds typcodes, but also deletes typcodes. The fact that you see something in just a single version of the file means NOTHING. 3. In many cases in the past, a model would show up in this file, then prototypes would start driving on the roads, then some of them would even be shipped to Woodcliff Lake for final eval - and then the market would get NOTHING. (This is my only contribution to this thread. Please don't ask questions - I've just said everything I have to say on this.) |
