Already failed with Bmw Australia as well. TheyÂ’re not interested
Used gearbox - <3k. The dealers dont have the relevant skills to code a single module is the way i understand it. juld0zer knows exactly what to do. Im happy to help R&R the box so long as it fits with visiting family on a weekend.
That's a great offer.

16k retail??? Might as well bend over and ask for no condom lol.. the last alternative sounds good. If this tranny gets fixed for a cheap price I'll be so happy for you.

I’m too far in for anything to be cheap. Already spent $1500 for wrong diagnosis at Bavarian, $4000 in labour at the dealer so far, to go cheap now would be $3000 for a second hand gearbox and $1000 for associated parts plus a nice little gift for the boys to make it worth their while - would be spending 10.5k the cheap way for no warranty. I’m just going to pay the 13k (which equals 14.5k total) and pray nothing else breaks down

There will be no mhd, no intake, no nothing.

After this, cars with warranty will only be purchased, from a dealer; and no modifications by me. I’m done

Side note. Aus335i and juldozer are some of the best blokes around. The amount of time and effort they volunteered for free is ridiculous. Wish I’d gone that path initially, would have been 5.5k ahead which would have made going second hand worth it

Live and learn........

Far out, that's harsh. You're not the only e93 335i to have some bad luck... that bogan335i guy from Newcastle had worse luck than you (albeit with an N54).

My unsolicited 2c: sell once it's fixed and move on. Or buy BMW used car warranty for $2k/yr..

Hope that $4k labour is being deducted from the $13k bill..

Yes it is!

Don’t think I can buy a warranty now can I?

Next car....but can’t move on after this. Will keep it a year or two more. Pray for reliability!

Aw man, just trying to help. Be sure and let us know how things go with it. It'd be cool to know what it was in the end.

Sorry to hear its gone this way Aaron, really sucks

If you have any other reliability probs, there's a few of us that would be glad to help out with labour etc to get it fixed with a smaller bill

Stay in touch, I'd be happy to help out in the future

Your a top bloke @Hoper. If nothing else you'll meet like minded individuals and swear at broken cars.

Hi Aaron,

Not sure where your at with your issue however i could possible fit mdct mechatronic unit for you. I have a few and they dont fail. Its untested territory but i have made far more difficult things work.

On used transmission, GS19 and above, they have an ISN number attached to them basically meaning a used unit will not start in another car. This number marries with the DME and CAS control unit.

Of course there is a process for making it work, bmw dealerships are unable to perform it and it is somewhat complicated and comes with risk. But absolutely doable.

Let me know if i can help, the internet will tell you transmission based isn number only excist in F and above cars, i found this to be false with what i have been doing.

What better to do with these m3 dct units than try get them working in an n55

If you can get me the car, im quietly confident i could make it would. This whole exercise should have been no more than a 4k ish round trip, which is reasonable.

another reason for all the dct retrofit work is below

the turbo/economy/emissions era is long and truly here, and here to stay.
but once upon a time, companies like bmw without such imposing restriction produced engines like the s85, imo the closest thing to an old school ish f1 engine on the street, and something we will never see again in na configuration. Now if we take the most connected/drivers chassis bmw ever made (just my opinion and add the s85, give it the dct transmission in never got but always deserved, the mdct (except in the m5 gtr 1 off build), imagine the car. Stock dme, fully functioning bmw electronics intergarted into the e46, tuned with a few select mods, putting down 400+ kws at the wheels, reving to 8+k with no turbos to muffle the exhaust....

this particular customer wont be dct but the work has been done and the electronics are a work in progress to suit dct into s54 and s85 platforms, who knows what comes of it.

if anyone happens to run into issues such as aaron has with his dct, we can certainly do our best to help, we have everything needed, parts etc and love doing crazy shit, personally the more difficult the better.

Appreciate the offer, however I’m already too committed $ wise to try and take a cheaper route now. To save $3k and have no warranty or anything it’s not worth it. I’ll cop this one on the chin and not own a car out of warranty again!

Well said mate.

From a suppliers perspective it's shit in the sense that people like yourself shouldn't lose confidence in what people out there can do. In all honesty you should have been 3 to 4k outa pocket with an mdct program and a smile on your face. Bmw vehicles will always take our money but in return should always make us smile. The opposite could be said of a Camry or similar.

The problem is there is too much dud advice and even worse places where money comes first and passion later.

I had a customer who kept buying smg parts day after day and finally I asked him wtf is going on. I was told his reputable bmw specialist was fixing it. After they failed we got the car only to find the transport lock (used to lock the pressure plate while is transit) for the self adjusting clutch was still connected somehow. Shit happens and everyone makes mistakes but should something the that cost a customer 5k for literally nothing. Let's be honest some things should never happen.

Best of luck with it, wish I had heard from you sooner. This would have been a cool challenge.

Just going through the right channels of becoming a site sponsor in which case we can post all the commercial stuff at that time.

We have 2x competition e92 m3 plus a few e90 m3 atm if anyone is interested in bits. The silver m3 bonnet is pretty mint everything is in sydney but can ship.
