3 options, what do you choose?
We'd had polls that compared 2 of the 3 but not all 3 together.
Here's the deal, you have 3 options and cost is not a concern. When I say that cost is not a concern, that goes for the car and upgrades. Your choices...2006 E46 M3 / 2007 E92 335i / 2007(8) E90 based M3. Some things to consider. 1) You already own an E90. 2) Only 1 of cars physically exists at this moment and the money is burning a hole in your pocket. 3) Only the E46 is upgrade ready and can be turned into a sub 12 sec. beast that will destroy the other two in a matter of a week or two. The other 2 most likely will not be upgrade ready for a couple of years at the least. 4) One is considered a classic, while the long-term status of the others is unknown. 5) By going with the E46, you will give up some more modern options which will be available on the others. 6) Your not concerned about space. The focus of the car will be performance. Take all the considerations in account and what do you choose? Instant gratification or patience??? BTW, I've made my choice. This is more of a hypothetical scenario based on options I don't have like unlimited money. I'm curious to see how opinions change based on the existence of different tangibles. |

I don't think the E46 M3 will have any chance in the poll above.

That's a pretty big statement considering how good a car the current M3 is and the large potential that is currently available to turn it into something that would put it in the realm of Z06 type performance in terms of 0-60 and 1/4 mile. But in reality, if faced with the option of buying a new current M3 they could afford now or waiting for a new M3 they may never be able to afford, most would jump on the current M3. The existence of "unlimited" funds changes all that. |

Well, since you said cost wasn't a concern... E90 based M3 - hands down. While at my dealer the other day I saw 2 M3's in the lot. Both very nice, and I think the exterior design still holds up nice... but when I looked in the window - very dated! I spend more time inside my car than standing outside admiring (just barely, I admit) so if for no other reason - I prefer the E90 interior.

I'm an impatient guy too... but you'll regret buying the E46 M3 when the new one comes out. Unless you want to throw away the $$$ at getting the E46 to tide you over until the new one is out. "Classic" sounds like something a salesman trying to unload E46 cars from the showroom would say. |
