USB Socket in Armrest intermittent
I've got a 2008 E91 335d with a retrofitted CIC system.
The USB socket in the armrest hasn't worked since I got the car, although it briefly worked this morning (iPhone started charging, message popped up on the display about the device with it's name and the iPhone suggested downloading an app) but haven't had it work since. Any ideas? |

USB comes from the Mulf 2 Hi or combox module in the
trunk. In some cars there is an usb Hub in between the Mulf and the USB Socket. If you change the Head Unit you usually need to program the new one to the options installed. The 6FL USB option must be programmed in for usb to work. In a 2008 equipped with usb it's likely it came with the Mulf 2 hi module underneath the TCU module. |

NO software is not intermittent hardware can be.
Bad connection or failing component is most likely if your battery is good. Last edited by ctuna; 03-29-2020 at 10:40 PM.. |

Looks like I have a combox - although as mentioned it's retrofitted and not standard as you can tell from the wiring. There are quite a few unplugged connections. I also noticed that the AUX input doesn't work either? I popped the socket out in the armrest so I guess the next thing is to check the wiring to see if it's actually connected to anything? |

I can see that INPA shows the "TEL/MULF" / "CMEDIAR" module has a fault code of "A8F9" which Google seems to suggest is something to do with a reset.
Unfortunately, I can't see the module listed in INPA to scan further? I'm assuming that querying all modules searches the car whereas the dropdown list comes from what the car should have - I'm guessing? |

Hi,
here was not well retrofitted. Looks like it was converted from MULF and TCU to Combox. AUX can not work, because the cable ends in the blue plug that is lying around loosely. Either you buy a MULF / TCU to Combox adapter or if you know how to repin, simply rewire and extend the cable properly. Read out your vehicle order and post it here, think that it wasn't code correct. |

Do you have a link to the part you mean? Is it this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fur-BMW-M...MAAOSw8VtcF1qj Is it just a case of plugging it in and it should work, or is there more to do - do I have to unplug something else? Apologies for the stupid questions. I'm a bit at the deep end with this setup! |

I think this cable - https://www.kufatec.com/en/infotainment-multimedia/adapter-for-bmw-mulf-tcu-to-combox-39067?number=39067-1 - in TCU/MULF form? |

Yes, that's the Adapter you need! Now you have only TCU version installed.

Worked first time! No idea how it ever worked before, mind. Now I just need to remember why I wanted it in the first place... Thanks again! |
