Buying tires from Cosco

Anyone purchase tires from Costco, and had them Installed? Just purchase, and installation. I’m going to my dealer for the wheel alignment. They have the Michelin AS/3 for about $150.00 less than my Indy shop, and dealership. That’s with tires, install, and balancing. Thanks.

My brother just hit up Sam's for a tasty set of Michelins. Best price around. The only thing that would concern me is how careful they are to avoid scratching the wheels. Just remind them your wheels are pristine and ask that they take care to avoid scratching them.

I've purchased a set of wheels from Costco. The price was great. The experience was...annoying.

First Experience: Brought in my e30 which had undersized tires due to stocking issues during it's previous change (40 sidewall instead of the correct 45). Full disclosure, my car is slightly lowered, my wheels are 16" compared to the stock 15".

Had to go back and forth with tech because they "only put on tires that are the same spec as was taken off". Upon explaining repeatedly that the tires currently on my car were the incorrect spec, he then attempts to go use his computer to look up the stock spec of my car to prove me wrong. His computer confirms I am correct, as the spec I'm requesting matches the overall dimensions of the default set up, adjusted for the larger diameter.

He then changes his tune to telling me there will be clearance/rubbing issues., which I tell him is wrong because I've run the exact spec in the past without issue. This leads to another lengthy back and forth which eventually leads to him making me sign a "waiver" and snobbishly warning me that once its mounted, they wont unmount it.

Of course the tire install goes off without a hitch (no shit), and tech gets to sit there with a dumb look on his face when i drive off.

2nd Experience: Called in for a set of tires for my girlfriend's new wheels. Only a call this time because I was jaded about the time wasted going there in person previously. The rims in question are same diameter as stock, but slightly wider. Again I provide the requested tire spec that will keep the profile the same, adjusted for the difference in wheel dimensions.

Tech ignores this request and asks for the year/make/model of my car then proceeds to try and tell me the spec I requested wont fit. I clarify a couple times that the wheels arent stock. Which finally leads to the tech telling me, they only swap tires on stock spec. At that point i just gave up and purchased the tires somewhere else

TL;DR: If you have aftermarket wheels on your car or are attempting to change tire profile specs, it will be a chore. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else

I haven't purchased from Costco but my first thought is to buy them and have someone else mount them.

I might just have them shipped to my dealership. My friend is the head technician, and he’s the only one that works on my car. My rims don’t have any scratches, or curb rash. I prefer to keep them like that.

Got tires from costco on several occasions for my X5 and 3. In both instances they warned me that the car came with run flats and the tires I installed are not run flats. Also, warned me that tires on my x5 are rated up to 150mph vs 170mph (or something like that) as indicated by BMW. (that one made us both chuckle) In all instances I acknowledged them and they did what I asked them to do. No issues. The only issue I did have on multiple occasions, was to tell them not to use PSI which is indicated in their system, but to use what is on the door jams. Also, first time when they installed my tires, they torqued the life out the lug nuts. So, since then I did ask them not to over torque lug nuts and torque them to only 100ftlb. They always comply. But, as you know, it will be hit or miss. It really depends on technician and even if they are having a good day.

Not really an option if it's your only set of wheel, but I've brought tires I bought on Tire Rack with wheels off the car and they mounted them no problem. Cheapest place in town ($15 or $20 a wheel I think?).

I just go to discount tire/America's tire, tell them that costco has a better deal and pull it up for them on my phone, they have price matched it every time without a second question.

last time the Michelin PS4S were like 160 cheaper at Costco and they didn't bat an eye at reducing the price to actually beat it by a bit.

I have a Goodyear Tire dealer by my house. I’ll go and see if they will match Cosco. Thanks.
