Thank you, I really appreciate that! It cost about $75 to fix it (The kit is not cheap), but good thing is that it is now stronger than it was before it was threaded because of the stainless steel inserts. I'm not going to lie, I started getting a bit giggity when the bolt reached it's torque. Now it's back at the alignment shop to correct the toe issue I was having with the driver side.

Once I get (hopefully) good news about the toe being adjusted to spec, I will comment in the other thread about the toe arms resolving it.

Thanks! I'm hoping so. I hear that once helicoiled, the threads are much stronger considering it's steel and no longer aluminum. That's always a plus haha.

Just to add. As a good practice, set your helicoil on a red locktite.

It's held up just fine, I sold the vehicle, but up until I sold it, it was perfect.

Great to hear! I'm really glad to have found this thread so thanks for taking the time to document your findings! I'm looking to do this today with the addition of the red locktite when inserting the helicoil. appreciate the response from a "dead" thread too

I've used them on Ford Explorers that have an issue with blowing spark plugs out of the head as a last resort before replacing the head itself. To my knowledge none of them have ever failed.

Good to hear, I was able to fix my toe arm threads and placed the helicoil with red locktite and the bolt with blue locktite. Everything torqued down properly and I will maybe only have to remove the bolt one last time when I get adjustable tow arms. As I've heard helicoils are weakened by constant removal and insertion into the threads. I was also recommended a product named Threadsert? which is relatively the same but instead of a coil it is a solid thread unit.

Super common, sadly. Happened to me too. Replaced both rear toe arms with OEM.

Use the correct helicoil kit:

M12 x 1.5

Kit contains M12.4mm twist drill to first drill out knackered threads that are left
Plus STI M12 x 1.5 plug tap (which is oversized externally specially to cater for the helicoil OD. The ID is regular M12 x1.5 for your bolt and I strongly suggest you use a NEW bolt.

The kit also contains the insertion tool and tang snapping off tool plus I’d course some helicoil which should be length size 1.5D

I’m also using some red loctite 271 on the OD of the helicoil before insertion to make it more permanent.
