I just purchased part #15. Will let you know how it goes. My windshield was replaced at some point, most likely will end up replacing all cowl gaskets as one of the boys did here.

I keep seeing post about this cowl seal. I'm fairly certain mine has three "///' rubber slats that help seal the cowl assembly. These seals I am seeing lack those extra rubber slats that might provide the proper seal. It's like they are general purpose, metal ribbed sealing, but it is not correct OEM.

However, I don't think there was a leak until I most recently broke the center clip. Either way, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to repair the broken clips so a replacement cabin filter housing might be the only fix.
I was able to fix my leak by adding 3/8"x1/4" EPDM door weatherstripping to the cabin filter cowl, where it seals against the top of the profile gasket:

curious if your ignition coil covering was removed some time ago and the water damaged cyls 5 & 6? https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_3968

well tbh not sure, water got in twice, both times I took it out, with spark plug still in. I haven’t driven it in a bit because my tire is coming in today but I will let you know how it is under load. Seems to idle fine other than random misfires, which i think is from my hpfp, once car is warm I clear codes and it acts fine.

thanks -
if part # 11 in the realoem link i sent (large black cover with hole for oil filler cap) was removed and left off for a period of time, this could have caused cowl leaked water to affect cyls 5 & 6; this cover is not water-tight where it meets the cyl head area but any water that makes it to the top of part #11 would run off and wouldn't/shouldn't affect any other electrical parts under the hood.

The N55 has different covers, but racerbruce's point still stands. Looking at the video of the leak, it appears you might be missing the rear engine cover? Part #11127593833, #21 in this diagram: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...53#11127593833

it appears the n55 ignition cover is two separate pieces and two separate part numbers....does the car with the 5 & 6 cyl coils/plugs (stella) that were damaged by water have both of these covers in place??

didn't know the n55 has two ignition covers.

the n54 is one cover.

If your windshield was replaced, you likely have a different issue. They always fail to install the little clip / trim piece at the bottom of the windshield that holds the cowl down on the windshield for a seal. I'd imagine that your cowl does not sit flush with the windshield, right?

I had this problem and in one rainstorm my interior flooded with water and ruined my blower motor.

Took it back and I purchased the OEM upper molding and lower trim piece from FCP and made them redo it. They broke the new glass removing it so had to give me a new one free and install it along with the parts I provided. Seems like this happens to everyone else too.

Damn, I have an OEM cowl with M3 strut brace and I broke my center clip too. I don't think my interior is getting any water but makes me want to bite the bullet and get the M3 cowl.

I'm VERY sensitive to mold/mildew and don't want to risk that ish't getting in my car.

Nah, it looks like it was done correctly, I checked under the cabin filter after a rain storm and it was dry in there.

It would be a lot easier with the strut brace removed. Start at 1:31:

Wanted to say thanks everyone for the help, so far In this thread I replaced my profile gasket seal which fixed leakage onto 5 and 6 coil, and now me missing a second back engine beauty cover that covers the back bank of coils. When I got my car it didn’t even have that on, thankfully you guys are here to help. I will put on the back engine cover tomorrow and do an update. Thanks again guys. Y’all very helpful.
