XHP Flashtool failing

I cannot flash the AT with XHP on my 2010 LCI 335i e90. Keeps failing with a login error:

tcu is refusing to enter programing mode

All prerequs are checked, Charger hooked up. Is there minim voltage to flash and does anyone know what it is? MHD is flashing as we speak with no issues

That is a pretty specific error code regarding the TCU. MHD flashes the ECU

I would contact xHP on their Facebook page and ask there. They're pretty helpful.

Idk of a min voltage. I do know that when you are working with ISTA it likes 14.4 or higher.

Try charging your battery all the way first and then flash with the TCU with a trickle charge.

Lights off, air off, radio off

Our DME's are very fickle when it comes to voltage and flashing

You can bypass the minimum voltage in the settings. Obviously risk something happening like bricking your TCU (I've taken those chances &#128513...

Nonetheless that error is intriguing. It's like his TCU is locked from being overwritten. Wonder if it was tampered before, by dealership or something like Alpina flash?

I tried for a couple days now to reach out to them in various ways with no response yet. Support is non existent and im not going to be happy if i paid all that money and i cant even use their flash.

I tried another android device and no go. Should i try bypassing the voltage setting. Im charged to 14ish.

Anyway i can tell if the TCU was tampered with? As far as i know the car was never tuned. It was bone stock when i got it.

You can try to bypass the voltage at your own risk yeah.

I've done at a handful of times and my battery is 2 years old.

Its the disable all pre safety checks option in the settings right? Why do you have to use it and what error do you get if you don't?

XHP still has not replied to my email, support ticket, web chat , or Facebook post.

Yeah. Say your battery is weak and you flash your car/TCU and your battery dies mid process. A half flashed TCU could brick it from working where you would have to physically replace the entire TCU unit.

I was confident that my battery was healthy enough and took the chance.

Put a INPA on and see if you are good with battery & ignition on.

A login error points towards the authentication step with the TCU failing. Before a write can take place the TCU and diagnostic machine (your xHP app) exchange keys and if the incorrect response is sent by xHP to the TCU then it won't allow the write to take place.

Can you flash the TCU using WinKFP? Try just flashing it back to stock in comfort mode.
Also what cable are you flashing with?

Are you 100% sure your battery charger/ maintainer is working correctly?

How powerful is your battery charger/ maintainer?

I'd suggest at least a 30amp battery charger/ maintainer. Personally, I have the Dewalt DXAEC80 and used it for a couple years now. It works pretty good IMO.

I'd encourage you to charge your battery to 100% FIRST. and then put your battery charger/ maintainer on it with the trickle charge.

The DME and subsequent modules are EXTREMELY fickle to voltage below 14.4-5 when flashing.

Of course when you flash, you have the ignition on, lights, AC, and radio off & doors shut.

As suggested, see if you can use WinKFP to update your TCU. If it can, then you have a software issue not a TCU issue.

Thanks guys. I got the car broke down at the moment putting on a fmic and downpipes. I'll try everything suggested when I get the car off the lift.

Either that or :

1) bimmer geeks cable w/ adapter on an android device
2) MHD Adapter

3) Thor adapter as mentioned

The wireless solutions are nice in theory but you can't beat a proper Bimmergeeks cable for reliability. So many topics with wireless adapter issues, some user error but also some are due to bugs in those adapters.

It's not just you, my xhp/delete has stopped working within the last week, apparently they are having issues and not being vocal about it. if anybody knows how to get a hold of them let me know as well! I've written emails too, no answer

So here is the reply from XHP. As far as i know the car has never been tuned and was complete stock when i got it. No indication of any FBO's either.

we looked at the log and it looks like you have a changed bootloader on your TCU. This can either be a transmission, which was once used in development, or maybe it was flashed with a different tool in the past. I suggest to re-flash it with WinkFP from scratch and then check again. We can’t fix this from a distance.
I have to get my new laptop set up then I will give it a try with WinkFP. Im unsure what Im supposed to do? Will this flash the stock bootloader back on?

Ok so I finally got arround to setting up my laptop and pulled some gearbox data with INPA.

XHP support stated this as the reason I cannot flash:

I have attached some screenshots from INPA as well. Can someone tell me which one is the gearbox and what the issue is with the bootloader? This is a 2010 e90 LCI 335i

Tried flashing with WINKFP and got this error at the bottom of the log. Any idea what is causing this?

Have a look at some of the threads regarding alpina flash.
Specifically, look at com port settings on your laptop.

From my experience with Winkfp anything error that says "COAPI" is related to the software or the cable itself. its happens to me all the time, sometimes the daten files get deleted by the antivirus so all i do is update the datens in in ncs and winkfp and it works, sometimes its the cable issue which is why i have 3 cables. also unplug everything from the computers usb ports except if you have a mouse and keyboard. plug in the cable and make sure its at com port1 if not then set that port as #1 and always use that port in the future for this purpose. BTW i have the bimmergeeks software. reinstall your software if you still have issues. lets say youre all set now get you old Zusb number from INpa for the EGS(transmission) module, take a pic or remember. then close inpa. thats another thing winkfp and inpa cant run at the same time idk why, next open winkfp after you close inpa, hit comfort mode then enter zusb number, type the number you got from inpa, hit ok, then click on the bottom right where it says enter vin(or something like that, if you dont have that option go in winkfp setting and allow vin writting) enter your full win and hit program its on bottom right as well, if it works it will do 0-100 quick then it will do 0-100 again but little slow. then it says done.
