I'm about to install these tires, looking for opinions on how much life they have left. I've done some of the coin tests and they seem totally fine, but I'm curious about peoples thoughts based on how they look. They are Falken Eurowinter 225/45/17

Looks like they have a season left. Not sure what brand, but Bridgestone (they don't look like them) dedicates about 1/2 the tread depth to their gripper rubber; lose a lot when you get below that.

As long as the sipes are there, you're ok.

You don't have a actual thread depth gauge? Personally under 6/32 I sell the tires because usually they don't perform as good for what they were.

I bought some used winters at 7/32 and will probably get new ones next year to give you an example.

Yours seem to be rights round that mark, difficult to tell exactly without a thread gauge.

I'd agree with one season remaining. They won't perform like new, obviously, but they will still be better than all-seasons or summer tires for sure.

My sister has some Michelin X-ice tires on her TL that look similar to that, but they were free, and they work SO much better than the crappy Firestone all-seasons the car normally has on it. The car goes from being useless in the snow to actually being able to get around.

Check the born on date most often as important at the tread depth depending. On sidewall (12/17) = 12th week of 2017.
Over 5 years gets a little sketchy.

One season left as far as I'm concerned. You can see there is about still an 1/8" of tread above the wear bars. Once the tread gets flush to the wear indicator (the bump in the gap between the tread) it means the tires are done. The rubber also looks like it is cracking which can be an indicator the rubber is drying out from old age. If they were already mounted to a rim I'd run them, but paying 80 bucks to get a shop to mount these seems like a waste of time and I'd rather spend a bit more $$ to get some better tires that would last you more time.

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate the replies. I'm still debating wether or not I want to run these.. I may bite the bullet and upgrade to something a little better.

Good call, lots of 225/45/17's available on the used markets here in GTA as E9x's are everywhere. You might have missed the boat a little as most the good deals have been snatched up. Remember that winter tires are meant to have super deep tread so even though they look good from a visual perspective these are very close to the end of their life.
