For future, if you set 0x2d7 to '00' odometer will be reset to 0 (as well as erase the actual odometer in first 2 lines)

If it show 999999 it's normally however. I you drive a couple of KM it will reset to 0 anyway.

If I install donor dash into vehicle, use Tool32 to adjust VIN and write KOMBI module should be good to go? Since donor odometer = 999,999 miles which is higher than vehicle CAS. What will the installed cluster odometer register? I was under the impression it will register the higher odometer miles? I'm a little confused and concerned.. please advise. Thank you so much!

No. If you have erased the odometer then it is erased. The cluster will show a 99999 reading if 0x2d7 is not 00. This is a function built into the firmware I believe by bmw do a vehicle can be moved from factory and still show 0 when it gets to the customer. As I understand it.

Interesting.. EEprom chip can only be erased one time. Strange, I didn't see any 0x2d7 line in R270, suspect is a 160DOWT. What if I don't use Tool32 to register VIN and write KOMBI to donor cluster then perhaps CAS won't register to 999,999 miles? After drive around to 0 miles, then register VIN and write KOMBI to donor cluster, hope CAS to update the donor cluster to vehicle's odometer? This is fun, at the same time is confusing. You guys rocks.. How did you ever figure this out...

I don't think that's how it works.

Like I said. If odometer is erased in the eeprom then it is erased. What's shown on the cluster is deliberate from factory I believe.

Also you don't need tool32.

Blank mileage and VIN, install in car, code to default with NCS Expert. SG_CODERIEN will auto fill the VIN as well as code the cluster.

I forgot you had the WT chip. I don't know the byte to erase for that one for true zero.

THANK YOU very very much Sensible!

My biggest concern is vehicle's CAS with lower mileage will pickup donor cluster high mileage 999999. Is that going happen after code to default with NCS Expert?

What do you mean? It's the address of a byte in the eeprom.

Ok I just got a carprog from amazon. I’m sending it back as I couldn’t get it to read using the clip. Does the board need to have power while reading? Also, if this car prof doesn’t work where is everyone getting their r270 and soic clips. Thanks

Trying to do this. I do have a red board. While it connects everything is 00. Does this mean it's not reading right or did I do something wrong?

There is zero difference between the red and blue R270 . A very simple fix to make a red /blue board R270 read any Bmw M35080 3,6 VP,V6 ,080dowq, 160d/35160 is to remove the yellow cap/resistor C1 on the eeprom adapter board and it will read all those eeproms properly.

Thanks for the info.

The tip of the pen is pointing to the spot where the resistor sits , Left side of C1 on the board

Sorry I meant to say the yellow resistor you need to remove sits on C1 ,right where the tip of the pen is pointing . I also see some confusion about when the first 2 lines of the eeprom are all set to 0 the cluster will show 9999xx , that is zero so don't worry your cas module will not take the 9999xx . A mileage offset is programmed into the microprocessor when the cars are shipped from the factory to the dealer ,I seen them offset from 999984 to 999999 when the cluster is actually 0 . That is why you will always see with a scanner that the cass mileage is always a few more kms/miles then what the cluster shows . Bench testing the cluster just connect 12v pos+ to pin 9 and 12v neg- to pin 18 and press the trip button and the mileage will show up .
