BMW E90 - 330D M Sport - Maintenance Hints?

Afternoon gents, I'm in the process of buying a 330D M Sport (2008) with around 90k miles on the clock. Getting it off my old man so I know the car's back door hasn't been ripped biggrin

It does have FSH and it's now getting to that age where I'm presuming a little more TLC is needed , especially considering that I'm planning to keep it for a good few years.

I appreciate this has probably been asked numerous times before but do you guys have a recommended maintenance schedule that I should follow? I have googled this and came across the Mike Miller maintenance schedule. Having not read it thoroughly yet, I'm not sure whether it suits the UK or not?

Any tips/hints are appreciated.

The car is getting to the age where common sense has to rule.

90k is not a particularly high mileage for a ten year old car but you are entering the zone where the age of the components is more important than the mileage.

My Volvo is nineteen (yes 19) years old with only 101k on the clock and bits are starting to fail that you would never expect to break in a million miles. It blew a radiator hose off the other day because the jubilee clip had rusted through! I have also just had to replace a full set of tyres with 6mm of tread left because the sidewalls and grooves of the tread were so badly cracked the MOT inspector could not pass it. To be fair I wouldn't have passed it either!

I cannot complain though the original battery lasted 14 years and the original exhaust 17 years.

In short, do the usual maintenance you would for any car, do not believe BMW when they tell you that a system is sealed for life (life of the guarantee perhaps!) and keep your eye on everything else and deal with issues as they arise before they become bigger problems.

Totally agree with above, and the “sealed for life” or “lifetime fill”

Well BMW deem “lifetime” as a set mileage or age imo which is when they want you to trade in, let’s say 100kmiles

Hey mate,

Mine is 2010 330D M E92 (auto) millage 100k when I got her.

So far:

1) All shocks replaced. Bilstein B8 are great with stock springs just make sure to buy either sport or normal ones. I went with stock m sprigs and B8 sport. Top mounts were replaced but they were ok.
2) EGR and Inlet manifold will definitely need cleaning + rubber seals on inlet manifold need to be replaced.
3) Brakes normal enough same with suspension. My front was cooked with control arms tired.
4) Gearbox/Diff/Engine probably most important to get changed.Specifically for me on automatic tranny.
5) glow plugs are most likely need attention with glow plug controller. I broke one and can't get it out... So if you can avoid do so.

Other than this rest are either my stupidity or general maintenance items. Hope it helps.

Regards,
Alex
