Morimoto XSB 3.0 Switchbacks - Excellent quality in my opinion, powered by a 9v battery in the picture which was only showing 8v on DMM so significantly brighter with the 12V from the car, I'll try get a decent photo of the headlight back in the car

i may give the ebay ones a try. Can't afford to spend over $100. I already have MTEC ones and passenger side is going out. It threw a code recently.

I cant speak for the other brand, but we have been designing our own lights for the last 10 years and have always stayed at the top of the market for innovation. Our newest LUX H8 180 are the brightest yet and offer a glass shield to help protect the LED's during install as well.

Here's a link to the thread on these with a number of customer installed photo's as well. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1344144

I'd vote for LUX, competitive price without any quality sacrificed. My set of LUX lights are much brighter and cleaner looking than the stock lights. Going on 9 months of daily driving with zero problems or complaints. Would buy again.

Love my 240W

It's amazing how much brighter they are compared to the 160W predecessor.

There is also an optional 2 year warranty.

I have seen some products that have 4 LED's and some have 8 or 12. Yet there rated to the same power.

Does number of LED's matter?

It would be interesting if actual users/owners can post there experience and not just vendors.

If you want i can help answer with a scientific explanation to this, but i know you are looking for user feedback vs. vendor feedback. Just let me know if you would like for me to chime in.

I was also hoping that users who have used both type of bulbs can also give there feedback.

OK. Adding LED's is helpful, but only to a short extent. Adding LED's will make the overall surface area larger for where the light is emitted, so that can be beneficial or harmful as well. If you are tryign to focus light into 2 small biger optic tubes, then having a massive array of LED's will not work since the light from the outer LED's will nto focus into the fiber optic tubes. In that case having 1 or 2 will be more beneficial
If you are referring to the headlights that use an H8 bulb for optics, adding more LED's is Not helpful at all. The stock reflector was designed for a H8 bulb, which has a small filament, and any light outside that focus spot is mostly wasted. Again, for this style 1 or 2 LED's in that focus area is the best

As for adding more LED's for brightness, Yes its useful to have more, but only to a certain extent. the more power you give an LED the less efficient it becomes unfortunately. 1 LED at a given power may produce 740 lumen, while 2 LED's at the same overall power may produce 860 lumen. That is a slightly noticeable difference. When you go to 4 LED's you can get 950 lumens, which is brighter, but the difference in brightness is much less perceivable at that point

With the LED's, there are different bin brightness within a given model, and this determines how efficient they are, aka how much light they produce. The more efficient the LED the brighter. As well the more efficient the price of the LED is higher also. 2 of the highest binned LED’s will be only slightly dimmer then 4 of the lowest bin LED’s, so its up to the manufacturer to determine the price difference vs performance

So overall it’s a tradeoff between focus, brightness, efficiency and overall cost of the LED’s that go into it.

So overall its a trade off of focus, brightness, and then overall price.

I just got the HPB 240w for my e93 from Jeff@TopGearSolutions and I am really impressed. I was going to get the 160s because I though that would be plenty going from stock, but Jeff recommended getting the 240s so for $10 more did. I have had them installed for 1 WHOLE DAY, and so far so good. Installing was a bit sketchy cause they are bigger and its a tight fit, but once they are in your done. Build quality seems very good, all connections seem solid. When I unlocked my doors to go to lunch I was very happy with the performance. Today was a bright yet overcast day and they looked awesome. I also drive by some windows to see my self......they are bad ass . That was my elementary review lol. Ill have to post back in the coming months on the longevity but I would imagine these things are pretty reliable. I was torn between the Lux which are great from what I have heard but I though for the money I would give these a try. I got a 2nd set for my pre-lci e90 as well which I haven't installed but being that I needed 2 sets I decided to get the HPBs. I would recommend these and I would also say I appreciate good service and Jeff@TopGearSolutions was great to deal with!

Here is a shot i took awhile back with the Lux H8 V5. Sadly my adaptive headlight broke thanks to a nice pothole so I'm going to get my headlights fixed by OssDesigens.
