Got a photo ticket on 295 anyone ever contest?

So I got a ticket doing 56 in an 45. Anyone ever gotten one of these and know if it gives you points?

Anyone ever contest one?

Anyone ever contest and win one?

Thinking of contesting it to try and get the fine lowered.

Here is the pick they got of my car. There is another one as well just as dark.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of people going to contest and saying they weren't the ones driving. They can't prove it was you by that photo

Yeah but on the ticket it says if you weren't the one driving then you need to provide the info of the person who was.

I received a similar ticket from a speed camera on River Road in Bethesda. I had considered attempting to contest it but at the end of the day, it wasn't worth my time or the potential headache. I just paid the $40 fine.

I wish it was $40, I would pay that. Mine is $125 for 11 over.

You need to check to see there are ideed points associated with the ticket. Some "camera" tickets do not have points because, as stated above, they can't prove who was driving. In essence, these tickets are purely for generating revenue.

If there are not points associated I would just pay the fine because you're going to have to take a half day off work and the other hassles don't help for trying to alleviate $125.

Where did you receive the ticket? I thought only Maryland had speed cameras in work zones. If it was in Maryland it's the 40 dollar no point fine, so I would just pay it because it's not worth the hassle of taking off work and fighting it.

Got one of these before - Thought about fighting it, but ended up paying. Be warned though, I sent in payment well before the 30 day requirement or whatever it was, then received a late payment notice, which doubled the fine. I called the office and they told me they never received my payment and gave me some bullshit response. Next day, my check was deposited. Called back and was told I still had to pay the late penalty. It was pretty obvious someone just fucked up my first payment, so I never paid the excess penalty.

I am not well versed on Virginia photo tickets, but, in general, these tickets, if you received it in the mail, have not been served to you adequately. Look to see if there is some language referring to your signature and return of the ticket is a waiver of your rights to proper service. If so, then you do not have to respond to the ticket until Virginia authorities serve it to you (getting it mailed to you by a corporation is not good enough). Only if you are served the ticket by a state official do you need to respond. I think the law also states that if you are not served within 4 months, the ticket is void. Again, you'd have to check on that. I do know that, if you are properly served and go to court, you do not have to reveal the name of the driver of your car if you were not the driver and the "driver" was your spouse. Highly recommend internet search on defending photo tickets. I would fight this if I ever got a photo ticket. Good luck!

Thanks but I got the ticket in DC. IT was sent from their DMV. I have done some research and found a couple of sites with some "sound" advice. I will be fighting the ticket and I'll let you guys know what happens. I have the money to pay but at a minimum I'd like to try and get it reduced.

Got a ticket in the same location a year ago on 295. They use a Nissan Murano or something so I didn't realize it was a trap for MONTHS (drove it every day), until i got the ticket in the mail.

couple hundred bucks, no points. Can't see you winning one of those in DC, they use them to make money like water.

I know, not trying to win, just trying to get it lowered maybe. We'll see. The worst thing that happens is I have to pay it anyway.

I have read on another forum that if you contest a photo ticket and lose, you may get charged points whereas if you pay the ticket online, you won't be charged any points.

I read the actual DC law and I didn't find anything that said that. So I hope that's not the case. Either way I'm still going to contest it.

that's completely retarded...if this is true it's a complete misuse of government power.
