iDrive Software & Map Update Help

I've been wanting to update the maps in my 2009 CIC E92 for quite some time now but haven't really got round to it until now.

Confused because I've been told by BMW the maps needs to be updated via DVD, but then see people have done it via USB in the glovebox. If it is via USB I have a 32GB one ready to be used for it, just need the files and FSC (if thats correct?). If anyone could help/point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated. TIA

You have a CIC system with Professional navigation (=PREMIUM).

To update your maps, you need to download PREMIUM maps and get/create an FSC code.

To get an FSC code:
  1. Try the "DYI: Easiest way to get 1b file and generate FSC codes for CIC navi map update" method: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1461515

  2. If the above returns a 1b.hex file that contains a generic VIN of "1234567" (characters 27 to 33), you'll need to manually extract the 1b.hex file using an ENET to OBD2 Connector, as per my comment: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...&postcount=390

If you use this method, I recommend you use Firefox: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...&postcount=306

Once you have an FSC code:
  1. Download the latest PREMIUM maps for your region.
Try the "2019-1 BMW Map Update Torrent Files" thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1604954 (or search for more options).

  2. Copy maps to USB and try updating using the USB port in the glove box.
If nav system doesn't recognise the USB, then you may have to copy the maps to DVD and update via DVD.
The following thread may help: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1643348

If you have problems with any of the above, post in the appropriate thread (as you're likely to get a quicker response).

Good Luck!

I'm in the same position.I tried updating maps with usb but It was unsuccessful process ,because my car doesn't support usb for map updating. So the only way is by DVD.I searched everywhere for DVD version of maps but I cant find it.I have USB maps which are 24gb and I was wondering if I can split into 3-4 dvd's.I dont know what to do !?!?!?
I am also wondering how to put a version straight onto dvds and update that way and where I can get the latest version for dvd since my 2nd e92 did not recognize the update but it did pull the 1b

I do not see the check mark in you CIC image that indicates it is the right software revision to update via USB.

The USB downloads -ARE- the DVD's in non iso format.

If you burn them to a closed session DVD, one file content per disk, you can update that way if desired.... assuming the correct firmware level of the CIC.

If you pulled the 1b, you should be able to update via USB no?
