I have a somewhat complicated setup and trying to get this to work. I'm running a Macbook Pro with a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter. Then Ethernet to ODB port. I manually put the settings in the OP within my Macbook's network settings. Those settings automatically transfer to Windows XP (running within Parallels). I can get the login prompt when I type in the FTP address into a browser or FTP client, but the "root" login and the 2 password options do not work. Both give me an error that it's the incorrect password. Any clue what I can try? Thanks guys.

I also tried doing it directly within Safari in OSx with the same issue. Wouldn't accept the login/password.

I have a 2011 E90 M3 LCI.

UPDATE: I'm an idiot, I was only seeing 7 characters, and not the last ). Was able to pull the file.

1B file from CIC using E-Sys cable

Folks,
Could it be that password to root has been changed?
I tried it on E-series today following this procedure.
I connected E-Sys cable and assigned required IP address to my PC (169.254.199.98). I was able to ping the car and even connect to it via FTP (169.254.199.99) but the authentication didn't work. I tried root with those two passwords (cic0803 or Hm83stN), no luck

I finally updated my CIC maps to Premium 2016-2. Took about an hour with 2 flash drives. Put 1 and 2 on first one, and 3 and 4 on second one. Worked like a charm.

If anyone in the Bay Area needs their maps updated, I have it on my Macbook that I can share. And I also have the E-Sys cable if you need to borrow. Just PM me.

Thought I'd post my experience updating a 2010 E90 M3. I had a bitch of a time figuring it out, but in the end, we got it to work. The first method, I logged in using "root" and pw "cic0803", and it allowed me to download the "generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTControlle r", but after generating the FSC code, it kept giving me the incorrect code error. After re-trying this method a few times, I tried the 3rd method and logged in anonymously instead. Pulled the "data03" file instead. Edited it in the same method as described to create the 1b file. Generated a different FSC code and this time it worked.

Hi all,
Previously i got successfully 1b file from my CIC and i updated the nav to 2016-1.
My question is:
If i want to update to 2016-2, can i use the same 1b file or have i get again the 1b file from my CIC?

Download the mega link at the top of this post, ignore everything in the post and almost everything in the rar. All you need is one file from that archive titled: "fsc.exe" to be placed in whatever directory you have your "a.hex" file in.

Then from the C:\> prompt in that directory just type something like:
fsc a.hex 0x2D 0xFF > code.txt
To create a file called code.txt in that directory which will then contain your FSC code.

For other regions/systems, type the following:

Premium Maps:
Europe: "fsc a.hex 0x28 0xFF > code.txt"
North America: "fsc a.hex 0x2D 0xFF > code.txt"
South America: "fsc a.hex 0x2F 0xFF > code.txt"
Australia/New Zealand: "fsc a.hex 0x03 0xFF > code.txt"
South Africa: "fsc a.hex 0x35 0xFF > code.txt"
Arabian Gulf: "fsc a.hex 0x36 0xFF > code.txt"
Japan: "fsc a.hex 0x37 0xFF > code.txt"

Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand/Southeast Asia: "fsc a.hex 0x3F 0xFF > code.txt"
Turkey: "fsc a.hex 0xC4 0xFF > code.txt"

Motion Maps:
Europe: "fsc a.hex 0x47 0xFF > code.txt"
South America: "2010fsc a.hex 0x4D 0xFF > code.txt"
Australia/New Zealand: "fsc a.hex 0x4E 0xFF > code.txt"
Arabian Gulf: "fsc a.hex 0x54 0xFF > code.txt"
Southern Africa: "fsc a.hex 0x6A 0xFF > code.txt"

SOUTHERN AFRICA: "fsc a.hex 0xAD 0xFF > code.txt"
SOUTHEAST ASIA: "fsc a.hex 0xAE 0xFF > code.txt"
SOUTH AMERICA: "fsc a.hex 0xAF 0xFF > code.txt"
INDIA: "fsc a.hex 0xB0 0xFF > code.txt"
ISRAEL: "fsc a.hex 0xB1 0xFF > code.txt"

Alternately, you can skip the 1b file stuff and just buy FSC codes here.
Thanks OP and everyone for the input!!
Can someone tell me where I can find the Fsc.exe??

thanks,

Yeah, what he said. Just google "FSC Code Generator" and it should take you to the right place.

You only need to get the file once. If you follow the directions in this thread the car will simply accept all future updates without ever asking for new codes. If you follow other directions you will have to generate and enter a new code for each update, but this can be done with the original 1b file.
