You should never do a transmission flush at this mileage. But yes, you do need a transmission fluid change. Big difference between the two.
Also $572 for a fluid change is a joke. Either DIY it or take it to an indy. About $150 for a drain and refill only or $400 for a drain, refill, replace transmission filter, replace transmission pan gasket. I highly recommend doing all 3 at an indy for $400. If you DIY it, should cost about $80 for parts.

I stick to the old school methods instead of this new "fix when broke" model because I want to be able to depend on the car. |

Listen to the guys here and find an independent BMW mechanic, there should be plenty around you. I just did a quick search and there's one called Motorsport GmbH in Lyndhurst, no experience with them but a lot of positive reviews. If you're just getting the generic service indicator and not a transmission specific failure, you don't need a $572 dealer flush, the only thing flushed is your wallet. You can choose to wait until 100K miles and get the fluid changed or go ahead and do it now along with whatever other service you need, it certainly won't hurt to replace it a bit sooner. |

If it's the red gear with the exclamation point inside, that's a transmission fault. Flushing the transmission is not going to do anything for you. What does the fault code say? Have you scanned the car for codes?

You want to pull the bottom line, which is a return line from the transmission. It will be the warm one. You will need a special key to take the hydraulic fitting off, but you can get them on Amazon for $13-15.00. You pull it off and direct it into a bucket. Turn the motor on and let 3 QTs run out. Fill 3 qts & repeat until you see clean, red fluid come out of the trans cooler line. This is of course done after your initial drain & replace the pan filter & fill. This is the only way you can get all the crappy trans fluid out of the torque converter in one shot, unless you want to drain and fill once a week for about a month. https://www.google.com/search?q=e90+...7dEytgbMsL5oFM: |

This is why i love forums EVERYONE has their idea of what should be done.
Sir please refer to ZF documents. All over the internet. How to perform when to perform and what fluid to use. |

At this point you may as well do your pan and fluid. Follow what ZF (manufacturer) recommends. With aforementioned comes additional opportunity to address certain aspects of the mechatronic unit that may develop issues later, such as leaking mechatronic sleeve, and cracked mechatronic adapter (seal) that can cause jerky shifts. These are all items that can be done easily once the pan is off. I just completed this whole job over the weekend. My main issue was that I ran out of oil and had to make an emergency run to the dealer for two more liters. Once the mechatronic unit is removed the oil will leak from the tranny for additional 30 mins. In the end I ended up adding 8.5 liters (with the engine running). If you got any additional questions feel free to message me. http://www.zftranspart.com/images/custom/mecha.pdf http://www.thectsc.com/bmw-6hp19-6hp...vel-procedures Last edited by Wolf 335; 10-03-2018 at 02:56 PM.. |

I was quoted 300 on a 6mt which takes about 30 min to do. I really do not get the indy dick sucking all the time on here.

I haven't seen this knob-slobbing you refer to, merely the frequently true statements from many here that indys are cheaper and often just as good as stealerships. Why go high when you can just get by? Say what? OP, you haven't actually seen any codes or IP dummy lights? Is there actually anything wrong with the transmission or the way the car drives?
