Code 2937 won't go away

Hi All,

Just picked up a used 2011 335 cheap but cant get this code to go away. I have replaced the temp sensor with known good ones and installed a new water pump and thermostat. I was thinking it could be a short in the harness since a bad radiator hose was leaking all over the front of the engine but I ran a continuity test with my meter from the sensor plug to the DME plug and it all checks out.

0x2937 10551 Coolant temperature sensor, electrical: Short to B+ or open circuit The diagnostic function monitors the coolant temperature sensor's wires. P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High

The fan runs full blast and screen says engine overheating since it is being fooled into thinking it is. I clear the code, fan slows, but it just comes back.

The only other thing I can think of is a bad DME but it doesn't seem likely(?). I have a spare I could attempt to clone but would rather not.

I appreciate any ideas to try.

There was a TSB for this a few years ago IIRC for the N55. Take a look at the NHTSA site, but a quick internet search revealed this from mini:

Thanks, I saw that in my searches as well and I have done basically everything it recommends. What's strange is my code seems to be 2937 for either an open and short circuit whereas that has a separate 2936 code for short to ground. I guess I'll try probing with my meter again, stumped.

2937 Coolant temperature sensor, electrical: short circuit to positive
2936 Coolant temperature sensor, electrical: short circuit to earth

It's a hornets nest of wires by the DME, so it could be many. Have you looked in TIS about the troubleshooting procedure?

On a side note, although not the same problem, this had a similar result. May want to just take a gander at the battery compartment to rule it out.

Thanks, Battery compartment is super clean.

I took the wiring harness off the front of the engine to day to look into the black junction box but the wires looked perfect. I'll do more troubleshooting this week.

You probably have already seen this in TIS, but the connection labeled X6236 above the Mickey Mouse flange is for your temp sensor.

Yes, that's it. I took the entire harness off and inspected it but didn't find anything wrong with it. I even took battery terminals off and touched them since I read that could wipe stored codes. I still get the code and the fan is on full blast but the malfunction message hasn't come back on the screen....yet.

I may just drive it a bit and see what happens then take it to an Indy and have them hook it up and diagnose.

Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it.

I will update the thread if I figure anything out.
