Procede V5 launch control

Did I miss it or did Shiv just teased launch control and never explained how to use it? Instructions and some details on how it works would be great! I am assuming it works similarly to the traction control aka spark retard.

Launch control is really only useful on 6AT cars with slicks/drag radials. It allows you to build a bunch of boost at a standstill without overly stressing your drivetrain (due to -15 degrees of timing retard). If you are running street tires, building any amount of boost through brake torquing will result in massive wheelspin. So just a caveat

To trigger the timing retard during brake torquing (pressing both brake and accelerator at the same time), just press and hold the volume down button on the steering wheel. You will hear the engine/exhaust note go deeper and you will build more boost. A second or two later, let go of the brake and you will take off. When you let go of the volume-down button, the ignition advance will be ramped back in and you will pick up another 50-60lbft of torque over the next 1/2 second. You better have traction when you do this.

Amazing!!!

Any mechanical wear or stress when doing this? Also do you have a youtube video for demonstration?

Do you plan on having the amount of maximum boost made while brake torquing to be user adjustable? If it was then it would not necessarily overwhelm street tires.

Another cool thing would be if you indicated launch control on the onscreen display. But it is just a novelty thing but would still be nice!

It can actually be controlled with your right foot. Just watch the in-dash boost gauge and launch when you're ready. We can easily make it user definable so it targets a pressure regardless of throttle position. But more pressing things to do before that

Is this NEW? I never heard anything before this about holding down the steering wheel buttons.

But what does the steering wheel button do?

Good to know. I never done this before. I thought this was done automatically.

Hey Shiv, so there's no point for 6MT drivers doing it b/c it won't work on a 6MT, or just that for us, we'd be sitting there doing a burnout instead of launching?

Not quite. It can be useful to trigger the timing retard during your launch and then let go of the volume down button as your tires get traction. What this does is drop engine torque output at the launch while keeping boost high so that there is no bog when you get grip again.

I don't see any of this being useful with an Xi

Why would it not be useful with an Xi? You don't really have problems with slipping off the line so you can build a lot more boost without worrying.
