JB4 which map

Reading a few threads where people are running different maps on their JB4
As I understand it map 1 is for stock, map 2 is for DP mod and map 5 adapts depending on mods etc

I'm running JB4 with stock plus charge pipe and tial BOV
Is there any problem running map 5 or should I run map 1 until I add catless downpipes?? A couple of threads said map 5 can be a bit of a risk?

No problem at all running map 5.

If there is a problem the car will show an engine light, and if there is a dangerous problem it will enter limp mode.

Map 1 is stable and safe, but it also caters to all cars and all fuels, especially those in the US.

If you run 98 octane I believe you can get a little more from map 5, and if you run 98 + e85 you should run map 5.

If you run map 1 with better fuel mix it won't hurt anything but the map won't target extra boost.

weirdly enough I've hit 15+ PSI on map 1 also on pump fuel 95 caltex..

but you're spot on with the maps.

downpipes seem too much of a headache for me with the potential for wastegate rattles etc.. might just go map 5 with e85 blend soon

Does anyone know why installing catless DPs would cause waste gate rattles?

They are already rattling, you just hear them more with down pipes.

Thanks Scotty
I might not get DPs now, so I can live in ignorant bliss thinking my waste gates are perfect

The material is much thinner with catless DPs.The stock DPs way about 7kg each

I would stay on map 1 and be happy with the power until you get DP and fmic

I logged a lot with JB4 using BP ultimate and even FBO map 5 It was pulling timing at its lowest boost levels. Intake temps were over 150 on a single 3rd gear pull.

My only question is why are you on 95 octane instead of premium 98?

Maybe 95 runs leaner and generates more hp?
or maybe not

Higher octane fuel is just more resistant to knock (fuel charge igniting unintentionally) so it allows the engine to run harder boost and more aggressive timing with less chance of pre-ignition... or so I believe.

So unless your tune is running more aggressive than 95 can handle, there is no extra to be gained from 98 than 95. On auto-tuning maps you might see an increase if there are no other issues present.

They don't cause WGR, but will make it more apparent if yours are already rattling to begin with (like mine), as the stock DPs mask the rattle noise quiet well.

Mine has being rattling for several month now (basically ever since I got all my mods installed at the same time), no other issues so bascially I have learned to just live with it... LOL

Map 5 will be hit and miss us here in Aus.

Make sure you upgrade to the latest firmware and log the first few runs to ensure that the settings are tuned for it to run properly. That's how my experience went with it!

Just use map 1 or map 5 if you have some ethanol. 95 is for tight arses. Use 98. I wouldn't even use 95 in my old 1993 Toyota townace that's done 300k's.

About 6 months ago I saw a E92 M3 owner using 95 while the 98 was available and he was looking at me like I was the fool.

To anyone using a JB4 or Cobb, have a look at your logs if using 95 then check them on 98.

I always see threads in Australia section about reviews of intercoolers and DPs but not with logs.

You are CRAZY not logging!

If you have a JB4 you need to buy the USB cable that plugs into the JB4 box.

If you have that, I can help you.

Cheers Scotty, do you need to remove the engine cowl thing to plug the USB cable into the JB4, my car isn't fitted with a USB port . Not sure why the original owner decided not to get the USB option

It does not plug into the car's USB port.

You get the BMS USB cable for the JB4, and then it connects directly to your JB4 box, then feed the USB cable through the firewall into the glove box and plug it into your laptop.
