Don't see why anybody would do this its to much
work and expense with to many things that could go wrong but http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=idrive 6 pages just doesn't encompass how hard this is. |

I found most of the info on the forums and though it'd be a good idea to put it all in one doc... |

Well you must have a lot of experience doing this because the
average person that comes to this board would likely spend a lot more time and have a lot more grief doing this and couldn't source the parts for close to that price. By the way there is and idrive subforum here http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=122 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=non+idrive the complete set of instruction look something more like this. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By4...ew?usp=sharing and is 60 pages long. and is just for the hardware. I was there and helped with the install. Can confirm it took 6 hours. One of the best upgrades you can do. @ctuna you would probably be better off spending your efforts and time on constructive posts rather than spamming with all this BS!

I work in sales so dont have a lot of experiance with stuff like this and followed the DIYs on the forum and found it super easy to do. I imagne takng the dash off is more daunting than hard... tempted to go NBT on a non idrive dash and moount the 10" screen like in the F serieses. this doc could be very helpfull in switching dashes. Ctunta is just a Noob buster in it for the post count |

So a team of car engineers can do this in 6 hours .
I am not spamming you but the evidence is this is not for the common car installer in the amount of time stated and for the price stated. And you only deliver a 6 page parts list for instructions. Last edited by ctuna; 12-22-2016 at 12:41 PM.. |

The parts are available at that price, as I mentioned earlier I have a set I'm selling at that price! The 6 page write up I did was to help others who are attempting the install themselves (obviously not you). When I was doing my research on this the info wasn't straight forward and part numbers were not all in one place so I took everything I found useful and put it on 6 pages to help others The only two things I didn't cover in my writeup are dash removal and coding, this is due to dash removal being incredibly easy + there are a lot of diy guides for this and coding because I would recommend taking the car to someone who knows what they're doing. If this isn't useful to you and you haven't done this yourself to know what it really takes then please just stay quiet. |

You link to a thread from 4 years ago, a lot changes in 4 years... the availability of the CIC systems is far greater than before, and the knowledge across the BMW forums for this retrofit has improved no end, and the poster is based in Denmark which I guess a relatively small BMW market as opposed to the USA and UK hence the price of the parts would be more expensive.... Nothing wrong with someone pooling together the information into one place from their own personal experience of performing the retrofit...

What I object to most is no actual installation instructions
so somebody attempting to do this can see what is actually involved. We have freedom of speech here in the US at least till the 21 st of January. Last edited by ctuna; 12-22-2016 at 05:45 PM.. |

Freedom of speah is great though it doesn't mean you can talk crap just for the sake of it. In the U.K. We also have common sense and manners to go with our freedom of speech, that's why I find your posts so bizarre... I'll say this again, if you don't know what you're talking about then please don't talk because youre just making yourself look totally silly and like you have nothing better to do... |

Just done the same job on my E92 last week and can confirm it also took me 6 hours, I have everything coded but ATM I have no emulator and I'm looking into a solution that doesn't use an emulator. Scripting is one but then its a pain to update the maps
Anyone have any suggestions other than scripting or an emulator ? Thanks |

I'm now taking my emulator out and having the cic coded to the car's vin because it's a pain to update the maps. Because the car's vin and cic's vin are different, I can't generate the right FSC code to update the maps . I've been speaking to Simon on here (Vorph) who did my mate's combox recently and he quoted me 120 to flash the cic unit. By far the cheapest and the most helpful bloke i've spoken to about this. |

The FSC code needs to be from the VIN of the CIC, from what I've read the only option is the emulator or scripting but apparently scripting is a right pain if you want to update the map
I'd be interested to see how you get on and let me know if you're selling the emulator cheap as I may getting impatient to get my nav working. I'm going to try and ftp the files off the HDD of my unit on Friday to see what u can find out I haven't so far found a clear scripting tutorial so let me know if you know of one |

Any idea how to get the PDC visuals to work without an emulator? I just installed an android screen that replaced the CID.
It will not play well with my emulator which means no PDC among other things not working. |
