Benefit to Aftermarket exhaust?

I have been wanting a Billy Boat exhaust for a while now and am willing to pull the trigger but thought I read in the past that there isn't much benefit on the n54 to doing an exhaust system other than the DPs. Now I can't find the threads I read on that subject or if it was a fallacy or if it's been confirmed.

Is it worth spending the near $1000 for an exhaust performance-wise?

Thanks!

Is sound and a little weight savings worth 1k to you? You can have a shop do something comparable for half the price, just won't look as pretty from underneath.

That's what I thought I had read. Thanks. If I ever come in to a little extra coin and have finished everything else maybe I will, but it will be at the end of the mod list.

Thanks again!

As stated above, a few ponies and 30-40lbs gone. I considered it a trade with the subwoofer I put in. FWIW, power added by an exhaust isn't a linear thing, i.e. the more power you make, the more the exhaust should help. My Corsa added ~12 whp when I was around 500 whp.

Exhaust will not add much power, if this is what you are looking to get its not going to be worth it. Although you do save weight by doing this upgrade.

If you are looking for a sound improvement then yes its worth it

For the most part, an after mkt exhaust might net you 5 to 10hp, when talking about post cat's back. I'm not including catless downpipes. Obviously with a tune, they will net you 25-30hp rather easily, and the type of downpipes & manufacturer will indeed effect the sound.

I'm taking about the exhaust pipes back.

It merely for sound and acoustics to be very honest.

I like the BMW PE & 335is mufflers myself. I heard the Cobb exhaust with catted downpipes & it sounded phenomenal.

A lot of guys like the VRSF exhaust as well.

You will benefit more from catless downpipes for less than half the price of the exhaust. You will also gain a significant amount of sound when you do this. You'll hear more turbo spool and your turbos will also spool faster. Take that 1000 bucks, do and intercooler ($400), downpipes ($300), chargepipe ($150), and intake filter ($60 if you build your own), MHD (~$200) and you're looking at a stage 2 tune for $1100... Your car will sound good and you'll definitely feel a HUGE difference. Unless you already have this stuff of course
