Well, my extended warranty explicitly exclude any diagnostic fees. I am fine with that, at least it covers the over 1K on the pump + t-stat!! Also, my dealer claims that the new pump has lifetime warranty. ;-)

I am in the same boat, I just went over the 100K mark on my 07 335i and am wondering on when this will go. I'll probably look at storing it 2nd week of November and hope the pump and tstat hold on till then.

Ha! I replaced my waterpump at 120K with Maranello BMW for $1K and now at 150K the "new" waterpump they gave me has failed again... after only 30K KM... They give you a 2 year warranty but I'm 9 months out of that (I only drive the car 5-10K KM a year) and they're basically saying that I have to keep paying $1K everytime it fails.

Water pump low voltage can be cause by battery. The water pump is electric. It needs 12v continuously. I had my car throw that code and it was not the water pump. So make sure and don't waste your money. My computer ended up being the problem with battery and water pump. Break my wallet!

75,000 km. One less thing to worry about for the next little while.

Update: got the water pump, thermostat and coolant flush done at BMWizard today. Rate is fair and he seems to know his stuff. I suggest giving Matt a call if you guys are in the same boat.

I trust Matty 100% with my cars. He knows BMW's in and out and is 100% honest! If you don't need it, he will tell you straight up! I have not replaced my waterpump yet (I'm at 150,000km) but he will be the man to do it when it goes.

Seems to be more and more problems... Its obvious BMW has some design problems that they are not looking to fix.

I had the same thing happen to my 07 335i. I am located in Calgary, and car just shut off. I managed to get it to a safe parking lot, and had to call a tow truck, and got it towed to Motor Werkes. They ended up replacing the Thermostat and the WaterPump for about $1100. The worst part, it happened on a Saturday night, so I had no way of contacting BMW and getting a price on it, and since I always go to Motor Werkes for my car, I ended up just getting my car dropped of there, it was fixed on Monday at 12. Really Convenient.

LOL - the WP monster has finally caught me too. 205k and 10 years later...actually not sure if it's the t-stat or WP, unable to pull the codes with my Vagcom in ODBII mode. The best price in town is my garage for the attempted DIY

Mine died last week. Pump lasted 359 days and about 27000km. Brought it to the parts counter at Maranello with my receipt, they replaced it without question, and a free set of bolts.

Wrenching time under 3 hours.

Well, on the new cars they have gone back to a mechanical water pump for the engine, then a second small electric pump for the turbo and to run with the engine off. So yes, they did fix it.

OHG is an easy fix. I'd rather do that over a water pump.

For those guessing when theirs might fail (or want to do preventative replacement) ... my waterpump on a 2007 335xi just failed at 153k km.
