HPFP failure???
Hi guys,
Today I was driving easy at 80 km/hr and then the service engine soon light came on. I beleive it was yellow. I must say I was in heavy traffic and it made me panick a little. Still had some power, but stopped at a traffic light and it stalled, had a hard time starting it back, had to close everything, and push the start button several times. I was lucky, as I was only 5 min. from BMW park avenue in Brossard here (which is not the place I bought it from)... So here in Quebec dealerships are closed on week-ends, so I have a wonderful beige on beige MALIBU for the week-end. Drove it for 10 minutes afterwards, it is awful. And by the way I'm running on low octane gas (regular 87) by recommendation from my dealership since I had misfires back in december. Supposedly they add stuff in premium gasoline in wintertime that my 335 doesn't like, or something like that. Other than that, can't wait to put the summers on. I miss my 128i sport pack, never failed me on anything in 50 000kms...and the suspension...god our suspension is lame on the xdrive. |

I also get the cold start rpm fluctuation. It seems to happen for about the first 20 seconds.
Is it me or does everyone want to cut off a BMW driver? |

I believe the cold start fluctuation is normal, as it's tied in a bit to your cold exhaust "Wurrble", my salesrep told me it would happen for 10=15 seconds upon dead cold start up and he was right.

From what i've read, the more $$ gases (Shell, Esso, etc) are refined more even the 91 vs 91..

honestly curious to know why you think ct fuel is any worse than other brands. for information sake i'd like to know if you have any info to support the opinion. i ran this gas for 3 years on my last 335 and i didnt run into any of the common issues (hpfp etc) that most n54 owners do. i could have just been lucky.

When I got there, my sales rep took me to the service supervisor (I think he is the supervisor or manager), he told me that if the reason why the service engine light's on is due to the fuel cap being not tightened enough after filling up the gas, then it'd not be under warranty and that it'd caused me a hundred and something dollar for them reset the code. I of course freaked out at this!!! As I have checked and am very sure that I have tightened the fuel cap. They said after the engine light has lit up, it will not go away even if i tighten the cap after. I am quite sure that i have e tightened the cap. Anyway, it did not take them long to check and came back to me saying that it was indeed the fuel cap was not tightened. Though they did not charge me for it at the end, but I am not sure if they are indeed telling me the truth of what the real problem was. At this point I feel much released as I have convinced myself it was the fuel cap, but how I did not tighten it enough, I have no idea. I find it quite stupid because if the warning light is caused by the loosen fuel cap, then how stupid the system is if it can't clear the warning light when the cap is lightened up after? I asked the service supervisor why it took the system 3 days to detect a loosen fuel cap and trigger the yellow engine light, and not immediately? He said it'd sometime take 2 to 3 days to trigger the light. Really???? Although i am not familiar with the system used in the car, but I feel he was full of crap. This just what I feel...... |

I am getting about 9.5 to 10 liters /100km, 50% highway and 50% local. The number on the book is quite accurate. I am sure I can get 7.4~7.5 liters/100km for smooth highway traffic as stated in the book, which is quite amazing! |

It is DIY but I know a guy who works at Mini who did it for me. Couple steps you need to follow, these ones are bigger than the Xenisis plug and play because they have and extra square piece (as seen in the website) which you have to place inside the compartment. It took my friend about 30/40 minutes to get it done.
As for being a lease, I dont think changing the lights would be an issue, would it? |
