Replaced mine last month. But since I'm paying the deductible, I took it to the dealership. I'm worried the independent shop might break the sensor because my car is still under warranty. The invoice came out a whopping $1,460.00!!!!

$454 for Pilington glass installed by Safelite.
Seems like a good job, small spot of black sealant on my leather seat, but it mostly came out with the Armorall cleaner wipes. Time will tell whether the rain sensor works correctly. They had a choice between green top tint and gray top tint. My original window that came on my 2009 335d (ordered from Munich) didnt come with any top tint on the window. I dont even recall if that was an option. So what is the deal? Is the tint an option included in a package I didnt get? Is it normal on certain models? It does seem to have affected my auto dimming mirrors in a good way. They react faster now, and are not as prone to undimming in well-lighted intersections, which is nice. Presumably because they think it is darker in front of the car.

The insurance co told me that they wouldn't do it for just pitting, which was my major problem. I did have a small crack though, and because it was inside the wiper swipe it qualified. Safelite Pilkington glass, grey tint band (green is also an option). No problems with the installation or the function of the auto wipers. I used Safelite out of Billerica and the tech was great, very professional and said he did bimmers all the time. |

Yeah the soft glass on our cars really sucks, and is especially apparent in the windshield.
That said, I would not have my windshield replaced by anyone other than a BMW dealer body shop with OEM glass and parts. THAT said, I already had this done, but then got to thinking how nice it would be to have glass in my windshield that doesn't pit...sigh... |

My sensor didn't survive "the move" when I had my windshield replaced, so I had to get a new one, which is fine, but - the car had to go to the dealership to get the new sensor REGISTERED to the computer before the auto wipers would behave. Silly - I wish I could demote the whole thing to manually-controlled intermittent...

Yeah pitting won't be covered under MA Insurance's, unfortunately, it'll have to start cracking or webbing out before they'll consider it covered. If the chips are large enough though they might cover it. If I recall they never actually looked at my windshield, just gave me the place to go to get it replaced. Never paid anything, nor did I have any follow up with anyone from my insurance company. Simply called, they said go get it fixed, and then I did......lol Good luck |

That would be awesome if we could force the value to 50% all the time and we can adjust the interval with just the dial on the stalk.
I need to replace my windshield and planning to go with Fuyao. Will report back my experience. At this stage of the car with 152,000 miles, I would not be too worried about the automatic rain sensor working good. |

It should be possible to code out the rain-sensing wipers, as I know it's possible to change the sensitivity through coding. (no, I don't recall how or where, it was years ago that this was done on my car)
Although, if you're having problems with the rain-sensing wipers, it's likely the sensor itself. The sensor is easy to break when changing windshields, and it's also possible that if you've changed windshields the replacement one wasn't specified for the rain-sensing setup. In my case (and this is more recently, so I do recall) when the rain-sensing stopped working properly, I did get an error code. IIRC, the code is for something like "rooftop module". Check codes and see if you have an error. The sensor itself can be purchased separately from the glass although it is a bit pricey (around $100 I believe). |
