Car Shows On TV

Are there any worthy car shows and channels anymore?? I recall some decent programs like top gear, auto week, a few classic car shows and a favorite of mine, auto Mundial. I think auto week is still on but Motortrend TV channel plays the same useless crap on loop. The car world isn't always about building a 57' rat rod with tubbed rear and a chopped roof with tattooed dudes who look like they fell out of a biker bar. Can we get something worth watching??

Carwow was great for me some years ago, now its recycling other stuff, 1/4.mille races and became boring really fast.
Top gear in 2000s was peak auto content
Chris harris has great reviews on cars, just like Tiff Needel had back in the day

If you are looking for homebuilds check out Fanatik Builds and Homebuilt by Jeff on YT.
HBJ is on weekly, unfortunately Fanatik has a lag between episodes but both are awesome builders.

It's funny how Motor Week hasn't changed its look or formula in like 45 years. I still enjoy it and often watch the Motor Week Retro episodes on their YouTube channel and binge all of the original 80/90/00 car reviews that I was obsessed with as a kid...I can't believe John Davis is still kicking!

Throttle House was my go-to but now they're the new Grand Tour hosts.

They said Throttle House isn't going anywhere...I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'd assume that The Grand Tour only has a shooting schedule of month or two, leaving a good deal of time for Throttle House, though I could see there being some downtime while they're filming GT.

No, it'll probably be the same format, but when they film these things they go back-to-back-to-back so the actual shooting schedule isn't all that long. For instance, Jeopardy will shoot something like eight episodes per day. Compressing the shooting schedule saves a lot of money since you're not paying all of that crew for months on end and gives post-production enough time to edit the episodes, etc.

It's just like a typical movie – they may spend anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months on the actual shoot, and then a year or more in post-production if it's heavy on CGI or whatever. Unless you're Stanley Kubrick, in which case you film for as damn long as you want, lol.

If the almighty google is correct, it's special format for 2026:

Angola: The team was spotted filming in the Angolan desert using track cars.

Malaysia: The new hosts are exploring the country's vibrant car culture.

California, USA: The hosts will be testing America’s latest performance vehicles.

Didcot Parkway, UK: Included as a filming spot in the upcoming series.

Likely not shot in the same day.

Specials only would be a wise move IMHO.

Just simply reviewing cars daily/weekly would get tired quick. Even with great production value... Also there just aren't enough interesting cars anymore (IMO). It might not hurt to do a few shorter episodes to build character relationships if needed though.

Some of the old and new top gear with same formula episodes got a bit stale compared to the unique specials...

Thanks – I stand corrected! In any event, they have said that Throttle House will continue, so that's good news.

On roku tv, there is a top gear channel that loops all the seasons. Also the f1 channel plays old races and specials all the time.
On youtube, i like m539 restorations and mdrives, who drives his og through every gorgeous location in europe. I also like jayemmoncars as he puts out a lot of content and reviews all the cars i like.
Lastly and also on youtube, i watch all the channels of the kids who sit outside the nurburgring and film cars coming and going. Lots of cool stuff there.

All of this. You have to read between the lines on most reviews as they don't outwardly disparage a car. But it's a tried and true formula that works. Shoot- I teared up when Goss passed away and they ran the episode where they announced his death. And I wasn't a huge Goss fan, but you could feel the emotion of the MotorWeek team about losing their team member.
