Windshield Replacement with Rain Sensor

How many of you have had you cars windshield replaced. How much did it cost. Is it really more expensive because of the auto wipers?

The glass doesn't have the rain sensors. The module does.

I just went though this 2 months ago and Safelight did a fine job.

I had been worried about it due to the sensors attached to it, but it wound up just fine.

I've had mine replaced 2 times in 4 years. That's with the rain sensor fitting and green tint up top. Each time only cost me my $50 comprehensive insurance deductible.

BMW OEM replacement. I think this one is Safelite though.

Are you going through insurance? I have Progressive and had to pay my $400 deductible, but that's because I got OEM. I couldve gotten aftermartket for a little cheaper. I had to jump thru hoops to get OEM. On top of paying my deductible, Progressive wanted me to pay the difference in aftermarket and OEM. Thankfully I found a shop who worked with my insurance and in the end I was able to get OEM for only my $400 deductible. Aftermarket may work just fine, but I just didn't want to chance my rain sensor not working over an extra 50 bucks or so.

I had mine done a couple of months ago due to pitting from stone chips. I have full glass coverage and it didn't cost me anything. It wasn't an OEM windshield which I was fearful of. But the local shop and tech did a great job and I haven't had any issues like some of the ones I read on this forum.
As for the rain sensor, he had to replace that. It's glued to the windshield and was a OEM part. This was on a '06 330xi.

Ok, so it was my friend that broke my windshield, and now he doesn't want to pay. Can I file charges?

Yes, you can go to small claims court, but that's going to cost money just to file, not to mention time spent in the court system and a friendship. Here's a hint, reducing ONLY your "comprehensive" insurance deductible to somewhere between $0 - $100 usually only costs about $10 per 6 month policy. Comp covers all the other stuff like vandalism, rocks falling off a truck and ruining your paint and windshield, and basically anything not covered under Collision and liability.

If he did it mischievously, you can file charges. But if he was just careless, then you have to sue him yourself in small claims court.

Four states have waived the deductible for windsheild replacement...no matter the glass. SC, KY, FL, Mass. So, thus its free!

If you have comprehensive on your coverage your deductible may only be $50 deductible, regardless of how the glass was broke.

Safelite here as well with rain sensors, I have no deductible comp so free but the invoice came out to $360. Be sure to check the matte black side windshield moldings. They scratched mine all to hell and didnt tell me but when i called them out they came out the next day and replaced them.

I had to replace mine twice in 2 month period from getting rocks smashing on the highway.

Luckily for me in MA its free. Both times replaced with OEM glass, no issues!
