Every Light is On!
Okay, not every light, but almost. So far that seems normal.
But I have some new problems: DSC AWD not working (I've done the reset steering procedure many times) Hill start not working Turn signals stay on Funny clicking sound turning the wheel left at low speed There are more, but these are all new and they all began at the same time. I have checked the fuses for the VTG and reset the battery, which actually turned off the lights for the first couple of minutes this morning, but then they all came back. I've done some searching and this trifecta of problems seems a little unusual, particularly with the turn signals staying on. Maybe this could indicate that the wheel angle sensor is bad? Any guidance for this Noob would be much appreciated. Thanks! Maybe my model will show up in my sig, but since this is my first post, I'll make sure. 2006 E91 325xi |

Voltage regulator
Battery got weak from something, most likely culprit is voltage regulator. It has brushes that wear out and it needs to be replaced. Monitor voltage with the car running, via the secret gauge cluster menu. If it reads anything other than 13.5V-14.5V, it's toast.

Batteries get weak with age too, even with a perfect alternator and voltage regulator. BMW batteries have a date code stamped on one of the terminals, a 2 digit week code and a 2 digit year code. Most others I've seen have a sticker.
My 330 had a H6 battery installed by the previous owner and I didn't get any errors or lights, but the car often wouldn't let me use the rear defroster or turn the blower up to the highest speed when the battery started to fail. I also had my LCI turn signals and LED angel eyes flickering occasionally (not bulb checks, flickering while driving.) All that was resolved with a new battery. Some great advice here, and cause for optimism. This was on the verge of becoming a bad relationship.
I have done some secret menu stuff and I have an OBD scanner that may tell me something about the battery health as well. If the battery and/or the voltage regulator are the source of the problem, I'll be over the moon, and able to start on the other 47 issues (conservatively) that need attention. I'll up my diagnostic game as well. That's a solid idea, and excellent if there is a way to do it on a phone rather than a PC, since I don't own one. Thanks! I'll report back with what I discover. |
