However... The 991 is not as big as you might think. The M2 is a 'small' car right? Lets compare the size of the M2 to a 991.

- - - - - - - - - M2 - - - - - 991
Wheelbase - 106.0 - - 96.5

Length - - 176.2 - - 177.1

Width - - 73.0 - - 71.2

Height - - 55.5 - - 50.9

Weight - - 3450 - - 3153

The M2 is a bigger car. Is the 991 bigger than it should be? IMO, yes. Is the 991 a big car, or a midsize car, or a luxury coupe? Nope. Its a sports car that is getting bigger like almost every other car.
Curious on this width, are you quoting the base car, or the wider "S"?

The M2 is barely smaller. It has supplanted the M3 and the M3 is the new M5 and M5 is a yacht and the M8 well....lets not go there.

Before the 991 was about to launch , it was considered ugly ,and 997 is the last remaining true 911. Keep in mind there is a lot of camouflage on the rear end ( same as 991 right before launch ) wait until the final product is release.

Also these are only the base carrera ,have to wait for more sportier options from porsche , like pasm sport ( lower suspension ) and sport design bumper/aero kit etc etc . Notice they’ve added a lower lip to this version ,instead of the flat front from earlier almost complete spy shot?

I mean, heck - a nicely equipped 991 Turbo S Cab is MORE MONEY than a brand new Ferrari Portifino and only about $20K less than the new Ferrari 488 GTB! The GT2RS is the same price as the Ferrari 812 SuperFast and $100,000 more than a Lambo Hurican. These prices just seem obscene to me. For crying out loud, a Boxster costs more than the M4 these days if nicely equipped. I just don't get it.
Well to be fair a Cayman/Boxster are superior to an M4 in many ways. Definitely in resale value.

And the position of that third brake light on the 992 is horrible.

You gotta forgo all the new technologies/safety/emissions stuff to get that weight.

*cough* Turbo miata *cough*

Or I guess use a ton of carbon/titanium to compensate when you can

I quoted the base narrow body car. I believe the wide body cars are ~2 in wider in the rear.

FYI, the "S" is not automatically a wider body. For the 997 and the 991 the RWD S is a narrow body just like the base. The cars that get the wide body are the "4" and "4S" models and the GTS, Turbo, and GT2/GT3.

This man knows his Porsches. Great context regarding the 991 vs. M2.

Folks, two points:
1). The 911 is a GT sports car -- but barely. It still has a wheelbase significantly under 100 inches, fer cryin' out loud -- in fact, here's a stat for y'all:
991 wheelbase: 96.4 inches
718 wheelbase: 97.4 inches
That's not a typo.

Here's another:
991.2 Carrera weight (MT), unladen: 3,042 lbs
718 Cayman 2.0 weight (MT), unladen: 2,943 lbs
718 Cayman S 2.5 weight (MT), unladen: 2,988 lbs

That's right: the 991.2 weighs less than 100 pounds more than a Cayman 2.0, and barely 50 pounds more than a Cayman S.

2). I guarantee that the third brake light on these test mules is temporary. Remember that on most current Porsches it's embedded in the roofliner behind the rear glass, meaning that it's effectively an interior feature, and we all know the interiors of cars are almost always the very last things to be become finalized in a new design. That's where the 992's will be, too.

The base and the S are narrow body cars meaning they are both 71.2 inches wide excluding mirrors.

The wide body 4,4S, targa/4S, GTS and GT3 are all 72.9 inches wide (1.75 wider than narrow body)

Then the turbo/S and GT2RS and GT3RS are all 74 inches wide

They do happen to look wider than they are though.

The 992 is going to be stunning if you like 911s.

Man, that backend really has a lot going on. Car looks too busy. I feel like the designer of the new Honda Civic got ahold of it.
