Techno Classica Essen Show...

Techno Classica Essen

Hi Gang,

This past weekend I went to Essen (Germany) to go see the Techno Classica Essen. It is a very cool and eccentric classic car show. I saw some really cool cars and a ton of memorabilia and collectables. I have been wanting to go to this event ever since I heard about it way, way back when! I am glad I went!

I tried to concentrate on BMW cars. But there was really so many cool cars it was hard to edit my photo essay. I am glad I took two cameras with me because my first camera ran out of battery life right as I got to the BMW hall!! A quick walk back to my car and I was back in biz.

I really was not prepared for so many cool cars in one place. I don’t know IF I saw more 911’s or Gulling SL’s! Ok… there were more 911’s… but dam there were a ton of interesting cars here. Just about every brand of cars except for Renaults. I saw all sorts of makes. Of course all the German brands were represented quite well. I saw all the German cars with the exception of Opel. I guess GM must still be counting their euro cents. I think IF you are into German cars like I am… you just got too come to one of these events! This and the IAA (Frankfurt Auto show!) are on my lists now.

I was also a little surprised that BMW had local BMW club (Deutschland) cars on display. All were registered street cars and in very good shape. I kind of wondered why they went that route? Doesn’t BMW have enough cars in their museum stock? Maybe the AMI Leipzig show has stretched their collection thin. Each car maker had their own hall. Twelve huge halls in all!

Ok, sorry for the mega photo post… but its worth your time to scroll thru my photos.

Enjoy,
David

Bravo! So many amazing cars under one roof!!!

It's hard to pick a favorite but the Yellowbird has to be one of them.

Hi Chirs,

Yea... the Yellow Bird CTR is one of my all time favs too. Have you ever seen RUF's own video with their test driver aka "Side-ways-Stefan" driving the yellow bird on the 'Ring!!! Its a dvd not to be forgotten!!! Esp when he said in a car mag that its a shame that he cane only do a "few" laps at the 'Ring hanging the tail out and drifting the back end for 200 or 300 meters out of the turns!!!! BEFORE one of teh rear tires will blow or wear out!!! lol I think that was in CAR mag back in the day.

RUF sells the dvd directly though. You can also find it on You Tube.

Btw... the CTR was the very first production car with a 6MT, 17 inch special Dunlap locking beads on the tires, 400 plus HP and only weighed in at 2,400 lbs!!!! No wonder it was Road & Tracks fastest production car of 1987!!!! I think 212 mph if I am not wrong.

take care,
David
