BMW 2006 330D Saloon SE Auto buying advice
Hi,
Please forgive me if I’ve posted in the wrong section and if my questions have been answered, please link me to the thread. So I’m looking at buying a 2006 BMW 330D SE auto, Saloon, 87000 miles with FSH and a years mot. Reg is: DY06 WHR. My questions are, what should I look out for; is there anything on particular with these car which fail or any common problems? Is this the M57 engine or N57 as I’m not sure? Are these prone to having timing chain problems and are they as much as a problems as they were on the 320D’s around the 2006 era. I believe this is pre-dpf, does this have a egr or swirl flaps? Any small detail that I should be aware of before buying this car I would really appreciate. Thanks! Olly. Last edited by Processing61; 10-24-2019 at 05:31 PM.. |

It will have a DPF. No major concerns, check mpg as if it's very low you may have thermostat and glow plug issues to resolve. Looks a nice clean car, bit of a sleeper

gearbox service would be my no 1 objective,,if its been done fine if not then £400,,put in sport mode and drive with light throttle,,if it jerks around 1.5k reves to 2.5 k revs or there abouts then could be clutch pack wear,,or just an adaptions reset..

As for the M57, they are a very reliable sturdy unit. I’ve had 2 and not had any problems with the engines themselves. My current 56 plater is now on 147,000 miles and still going strong. As others have said, check it’s getting up to temperature and stays there on a run, if not the thermostats need replacing. Not a bad job to do if you’re a diy’er. If it’s got it’s swirl flaps still get them replaced with blanks. Then get it mapped and enjoy the extra power and 40ish mpg. Win win. |
