I still stand by the ''Ultimate street car'' status for the 911 turbo.

You'll get a 996 GT2 for about £60K though

But its a 996. There the official ''Widow aker''

Id rather a 997 turbo for 60k then a 996 WM.

Widow maker ... thought you were well into, erm, "widow making" driving???

So are classic 911s plenty of us to tell the tale, so long as you don't drive like an idiot and get used to the car before you attempt to do push it you'll be fine

Were has your sense of thrill gone?? No way am I saying that old "widow makers" are as capable as newer cars but they are very exciting to drive, due to taking a risk really is taking a risk

Yeah, but id rather a newer turbo for the same money. Thats all im saying.

I think your driving was far more risky overtaking up that cat and fiddle road up a hill in a 45bhp mx5 lol.

The GT2 is called a widow maker by the way, i didnt make it up.

So are classic 911s and many other cars.

Carl - I'm not criticising your driving at all, I have no right to because I drive in a risky manner too, sometimes.

LOL, yes they may be called so in passing, but the 996 GT2 is called that due to being a pumped up homologation 911 turbo with the front driveshafs removed which = lethal.

Whether or not it equals lethal is down to the individual, who drives it I'm not saying it wouldn't = lethal for me or many others what I'm trying to say is no car is lethal it is the person who drives the car, hope you see what I'm trying to get at!! Don't know if you know anyone with a 996 GT2, I do and they aren't dead, see my arguement

And can you seriously pick a 997 turbo up for £60K now??? That can't be right surely??

Porka, journos said that about it because its a more powerful version of the turbo but without the back up of 4wd, they found it a handful.

Yes turbos for 60k.

edit ( quite a few have been killed)

A cliff is safe if you dont stand on the edge.

hehe about the cliff, well ya know me and car safety don't really know each other very well, I seem to gravitate to "unsafe" cars, no idea why???! Don't think I've ever bought anything with an ncap!

Turbos for £60K, wow just can't believe they are that low! I daren't look or I will have to find / borrow or whatever the way to obtain cash is these days .... what are the going prices for 996 GT3 Mk.1 or Mk.2 RS?

Approx 30-35k for a GT3 and RS about 50k. Much prefer the 997 versions.

You can pick up 996 turbos for under 30k now.

A good GT3 is still 40K and an RS closer to 60K, it was the 993 GT2 that was dubbed the widow maker, oversteer was much improved on the 996 and one of the most common mods on high powered 996 TT`s is to remove the propshaft.

Good point Tony and the front bumper was re-sprayed last week as per Porsche used car warranty approval conditions. Will defo. look into this.

Thanks Chris

Looks like you only get the Porsche Driving Experience when you buy a new Porka, although I would like to do a track day, so I'll see what I can do.
