Had my first long crank in 9 months yesterday...
I had a little less than a quarter of gas left in the tank. Hadn't driven my car for two days. Started it up, and noticed how it took 4-5 seconds for the car to start up. I drove the car for awhile yesterday and noticed no issues..but do I have anything to be worry about?

Had my looonnnggg crank today.... 7600 mi on her. It literally took 7-8 long seconds to finally start up. I just hit the start button and it just cranked away! Was kinda embarrassing with all my neighbors around outside watching... They usually complement me on my new car but now I got the ohhh shit stares lol

Seems like the long cranks are happening more frequently..spread out over every 2-3 days. I would go to the dealership but I'm getting downpipes installed this Saturday and I'm not sure if they'll blame it on the DP's or not....

yeah dude, dont put them on yet... see if you can work something out with the dealer first. They are a bitch to take off/on all the time and really not worth the head-ache of proving its not the dps...

How many miles do you have on the car?

Do NOT install those DPs until you verify the car is running fine as people have noted. They are most definitely a no-no from a warranty standpoint, you don't know how the dealer will react. Catback exhaust is one thing and the dealership probably wouldn't care. But when you start fooling w/ the catalytic converter ...
When I shut off my car, I make sure the stereo, ventilation, and anything else (heated seats) are turned 100% off. When I start the car I don't depress the brake (handbrake engaged though). Less load on the engine this way. So see if the car starts up faster if things are turned off.

I have 6100 miles. Mind you, my cranks aren't exceedingly long. Maybe 2 seconds longer than normal. There aren't any codes and once the car is started up, everything is smooth sailing. I don't have the time to go to the dealer before Saturday and if I don't get the DP's installed before then, I won't be free to install it for another 2 weeks because of time constraints.
I'm going to start shutting unnecessary stuff off before I shutoff the car. Hopefully that will help. Otherwise, I'll wait a couple of weeks, get the DP's uninstalled and take it to the dealer. It's a waste of money I know, but I dot have the time. |

I sometime notice a slightly longer crank (1-2 sec longer than usual) if the car is already warm (if I start the car 5-15 min just after a long ride).

well... one thing has come to be what looks like a pattern now. Every time I drive the car hard (like bimmerstock caravan racing hard) the car would seem to crank long the next day. Its been twice now when I drove my car hard the day before, and the next morning it would crank for 10 seconds before its ok again. This morning was especially bad because the car cranked 10 seconds-ish sounded like it was going to turn over but then cranked for another 3 seconds before it finally started...

Also, since my car is acting retarded with a delay in the shift between 3rd through 5th gear on map 2 and map 1, I'm running map 0 until the USB cable comes in the mail. So 20 minutes ago, I had to pick up my mom from the train station and I decided I'd check for codes while I was waiting. I've never had any codes with my car yet till now and I received a 0x3106 code. Catalytic converter: Efficiency below limit I emailed Terry about it 5 minutes ago, but I'm trying to figure out if something went wrong with my down pipe install. |

If you turn off the auto-clear, the car will not throw it immediately, but it will come on after 40-50 miles. 10 second crank ... I'd soil myself.

i was getting very bored listening to this shit sitting there at 5am in my garage just waking up the neighbors.... ugh. Worst part is that i can pretty much know after i've driven my car hard, that the next day i'll get this bad of a crank. Maybe i'll video it next time
