Did anyone read the new EuropenCar? I don't have it. There is supposed to be an article about heat shut down and a vendor supplied an intercooler that solved the problem. Anyone have it that could post it please?

I posted this in another thread I created a while back but I thought I'd add to this one to help give more examples to figure this out.
My shutdown experience at the track involved three separate turns on multiple runs at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Turn 1, going in at 120mph under threshold braking, it's a large right-hand 180* turn with speed dropping to high 2nd gear speeds at exit. Once I started using maximum braking in the turn I started experiencing no throttle response on exit for a period of 10 seconds. That was enough time to get through the left hand turn 2 coasting and a short straight to 3. Turn 5, a high 3rd gear hard right hand turn with high compression due to uphill transition. The throttle response cut out right after going through, stayed off 10 seconds through the uphill and long right-hand sweeper that follow. Turn 9, a 90* right hander, 2nd gear exit with 100mph+ entry. 10 seconds of no throttle after. I never saw any dash signals and full power always resumed after 10 seconds or so. The only times it didn't happen I went into the turns slower with less braking (not much fun). If I went in full speed to any of the turns under maximum braking the throttle would go away. It started happening at just under 1/2 tank of gas. Oil temp at 280-285 max. I have an E90 335i, spt pkg w/oil cooler, 5spd. Just more info for the discussion, hope someone figures it out. |

I was thinking the same thing but should I really be having that problem with half a tank? That seems like a real design flaw if you can move the gas away from the pickup with that much fuel in the tank. I am on stock tires as well.

Just a friendly analysis for fun. I certainly do agree there is a big correlation between average RPM and lap times, but I think the differences are big enough to make lap times unreliable for predicting overheating. |

Anyone paid any attention to the EGT's (pre-turbo) on the 335? I'm curious what the EGT's are like. I know some ECUs will retard power if the EGTs start hitting high#'s, but know nothing about the BMW ECU.

Hey guys,
Checking to see if there is any interest in getting this thread going again. I was going to start a new one until I noticed this. Anyway, here is my story. 45 degree overcast day. And then it happens: red engine failure light beaming at your face. Not even the yellow gimp mode - RED. Yes, that’s “gimp.” That’s it? 6 laps and it gave up the ghost. I pull into the pits and pop the hood. Start it up again, and there is no sign whatsoever of an overheat condition. The oil temp probably reached 270. The engine over heat was the only real disappointment. But a big disappointment at that. How could BMW let this fault slip by without correction? Their engines are supposed to be the prize. Is there a correction? How do we fix what BMW couldn't get right on its own despite their resources? It’s pretty embarrassing for them IMO. I intended to spend some time on the track this summer. So now what? I need another car I guess. If I had known the 335i was such a dud, I would have never bought it. Any solutions before I buy another non-BMW vehicle? EDIT: I got the overheat signal while accelerating off an apex in 2nd gear.

Sorry to hear it guys...
I havent really tracked my E90 hard yet, but havent had any problems tracking my other BMWs. Is this a 335i problem only, havent heard of it hear in Denmark, but then with our car-prices people who own them around here is probably in their 80s or something I will be tracking my car May 27th, hopingly it will perform faultlessly |
