I called BMW NA and explained that I need to get airbag replaced ASAP since it is my only car and I feel nervous to drive this car, they shipped airbag week after I spoke to them.

Another case of the squeaky wheel gets the grease, that's how life works....

Just like Audi offering no alternate transportation, my buddy sends a friendly email, and they say give them 1-2 days, they'll set them up with a brand new A3 off the lot....

I called Friday to discuss the loaner/rental program and they said it's actually not being done anymore because the airbags are now rolling out to dealerships to be done.. They also said that Florida is one of the higher demanding states so we'll get them first.. About 4-6 weeks before dealers are going to be scheduling appointments.. Just FYI..

My dealership called me and told me today that the recall part is in. The reason that they called me is that I have been driving a loaner for a few months, so I'm sure I have been given precedence over others.

It's kind of ironic, there have been a camp here and on the M3 forum where they said they would not take a rental because it's not as fun as their own car and they'll take their chances. I mean, ironic, if by taking the rental, you're given priority over the people who did not.

But again, I ask from a workflow standpoint, how would they even know who these folks are, that did not take a rental, where they live, and what dealership they go to (ex a person sometimes has gone to 3 or more in their area)? Common sense would say once parts are plentiful, they just mail out a postcard to tell them to go to any dealership. that would be a very low priority...

It sounds like people dont care about the airbag recall, alot of people are talking advantage of the situation by getting a loaner for several months. In the end every car will get fixed.

BMW NA said that CA (particularly southern CA) is a "Type A" state which means they will be one of the first to receive airbags, due to the heat. They did not say which other states are in this category, but I'm assuming it's those that also have high humidity.

Interesting, we keep learning more as we go along....I was wondering because where you are is not humid. But they consider you a high heat area.....also, I bet it would be difficult to draw a boundary--if they went by humidity, then, is Pasadena high humidity? People say no, yet it's SoCal....

Airbag came in yesterday for my car. Just got it replaced this morning. I've had a rental since May. Glad to be back in my car, was getting sick of the Altima rental.

Is it an "interim" version? Looks like WI is in Zone C, so you should be getting your airbag last. Unless your car spent most of its life in Zone A?

I think it will just be the interim fix. That's what the SA said when I went in to get set up with the rental.

That sucks. The interim version is also a recalled airbag, so you're going to have to change it again

But, this thread does seem consistent with that doc although a nj person recd a call...and one does not have a choice with interim so it seems...

Received a call from my SA that my airbag replacement is in but I'm over at the East Coast on vacation so the dealer will have to wait a couple weeks and I live in Washington State. Also I have had a rental since May from Enterprise.

Not following the trend as WA is zone C.

Is the VIN specific for sure? It would be in everyone's best interest that if a customer cannot bring the car in for say 48 hours, it is used on another car and the person who skipped their turn is rescheduled. Otherwise, it's wasting resources. Things likely are made to appear more organized than they really are.

I remember back when I first brought my car in for them to inspect to set up my rental the SA did state that since there going to be paying for my rental that I would be prioritized on their waiting list. I wonder if it's the same for others?
