Almost 5 1/2 yrs now with no issues at all. Never been to the dealer except for my free oil changes, combox upgrade, and air bag recall.

Absolutely. I'm an original owner who bought the car in March 2008 with 7 miles on the Odometer.

There was a good stretch of 2 years where absolutely nothing went wrong.

I feel I got lucky with such a great car to drive. Sure, it's expensive to maintain and quite a baby, however it's treated me well over the years. I will never sell it.

2011 335i, xdrive 6MT. Purchased with 25k miles in 2014, currently has 58k miles. Has been a very reliable and trouble free car. Oct/2010 build date and burns zero oil.

In the four years I've owned it, these are the only repairs.

-valve cover gasket around 40k miles
-OFHG last winter around 53k miles.

Preventative stuff/Maintenance/Upgrades:

-Oil changes: every 5-6k, Liqui-moly 5W-30 and Ceretec 20002 additive.
-New OEM plugs at 35k miles.
-Motul 600 brake fluid flush every year.
-AFE Air Filter, clean after every oil change.
-Transmission, F/R Diff, T-case, power steering fluid change at 53K.
-Waterpump/thermostat, 53K (no signs of failure on originals, did as preventative)
-Koni Yellows/Dinan springs/ rear M3 swaybar/from UUC swaybar, rear m3 chassis braces.
-ER charge pipe
-JB4 since 2014.
-Oil Cooler Thermostat mod (oil temp is now around 220-230).
-Removed top engine cover.

SIDE NOTE: I am also very diligent about allowing all engines to properly warm up AND cool down. Spent enough time fixing them to see how critical it is to do this (cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, weed whackers, generators, tractors, etc.)

Typical Routine: I shift around 2-2.5k RPMs and not much more than half throttle until full oil temp (around 220). On cold start I let it idle for about 30 seconds, every time. On warmer days, I will pop open the hood in the garage after a long drive. I also always let the engine idle for about 10-20 seconds before shutting it off

BMW parts are much cheaper but maintenance is an ongoing thing. My Cadillacs tend to break far less often but cost more when they do, but they're also a bit more satisfying to be in and drive. I go back and forth between the two brands every few years.
lol and now my brake sensor is broken and the angel eye lamp is out, but at least those are quick fixes.

I also need to replace the rear turn signal socket since it's corroded and occasionally doesnt work.

In the past year:

FRM module - dealer replaced

Coils/plugs - changed myself because I'm tuned

OFHG - started leaking

chargepipe - replaced cheap plastic

serpettine belt/- preventative maintenance

Not too bad

All that is "Regular Maintenance". Expect it to be replaced every 30k..

Now if you are not a DIY. Expect to be raped.

I've done so far:

VANOS Solenoids
Waterpump/tstat
Replaced FRM

Currently it's in the shop for an alternator and possibly the belt, as it's been making squealing noises lately, hoping that was from the alternator going tho..

Things that need to be done:

Pass. side headlight motor does not work, need a motor control module
Leaks oil from somewhere
Leaks gas (literally pisses it out when at highway speeds)
Waste gate rattle

I've only had the car since October of last year. When I bought it, the dealer I bought it from did some work under warranty. It seems like clock work it breaks, every 3 or so months...

Ofcourse reality is much more different, we see it everywhere. Youtube anything about BMW and you are bound to see countless videos about BMW reliability.

My last issue was OFHG 2 weeks ago, it didnt even last a year. These are "Minor" issues as alot of fan boys here call them. But they dont tell you that the "minor" issues can cause catastrophic issues. (a BMW novelty) Your OFHG can turn into a new engine needed.

So yes i have to open my hood weekly, because you never know what is leaking next. And because i open the hood so often the hood latch is about to go LOOL.

You are not alone. If you are a E90 owner you better learn to do something yourself. Or else you better buy a russian MIG-19 from the 70s, it might be more cost effective and more fun ..
Are you using the OEM BMW gasket, which is Made in Japan or an aftermarket one?

Bought at 99k. In 40k miles / 4.5 years:
1 angel eye bulb
1 coil
Waterpump at 130k (i guess again at 260k, but that will take me 15 years).

Sorry, I dont conform to the "law" that your BMW breaks all the time. Even the waterpump, which I also did on our E91 - I limped home just fine with a completely dead pump. You couldnt do that on a Toyota, you'd need a new engine. And its not like 130k is a bad service life.

Btw, I did have a cupholder get "broken" (stuck) once. Friend got in my car, and I have no idea how - jammed it with his knee. Anyway, the super helpful ICE agents at the Canadian border got it unstuck for me, lol. I suppose they look for drugs hidden in cupholders of BMWs. Its been just fine ever since, and I use them all the time, I think they are fine...

My cup holder has gotten stuck shut too. I ended up opening it and there's a roll of spring steel that keeps tension on it when its closed so when you push on it, it opens. There's a plastic notch where the spring locks into, mine broke. Had to get a file and carve a new one. Works fine ever since.

This time i used OEM. It might last longer but the point is it should not fail this often. After market parts are very high quality from reputable vendors. I used Victor Reinz. I think the issue is the design. It was designed to fail.

VR makes shit gaskets. This has been known for years in the BMW community.

And if it only lasts a year, you or somebody is doing it wrong.

My pump went at 149,500, so I too thought I'd be replacing it at 300,000. 52,000 past that mark now, not one WP code has appeared. I think the revised N52 pumps solved the over-heating electronics issue.

Yes, but these days I only drive 10 miles round trip to my carpool location and very rarely make the 220mile round trip commute to work at the desert that includes a drive up the mountain. I got a TPMS inactive a few times going up the mountain in the afternoon but it would go away. I would attribute that to the extreme temps.
