New car dilemma £17000 budget

Hi

I am looking to purchase a new car in the next 2 weeks and I'm wanting a little bit of advice to decide what car to go for next.
To give you a little bit of background I currently drive a 56 plate e92 335d which is remapped to 350bhp and 550lbft of torque, I have upgraded eibach springs and bilstein shock absorbers so the handling is very good.
The issue I'm facing is that I have had diesel cars for the last 6 years and miss having a petrol car even though the mid range torque is good on the diesels.
I will be using the new car as a daily driver and will do about 16000 miles per year, mainly motorway miles.

The requirements I need are below
Car no older than a 2008 plate
Less than 70000 miles on the clock
Need to achieve around 25mpg on motorway journeys
Needs to be as fast if not faster than my 335d, I will be looking to remap the car I get so as long as it is similar performance after a remap u don't mind.

I have narrowed it down to the below cars but I welcome any other options people may have.

Audi s5 3.0t - can upgrade supercharge pulley and remap to over 400 bhp, probably a 2010 plate.
Golf r mk 7 - remap to around 360bhp 4wd, 2014 plate is possible with some negotiations.
E92 m3 - high tax and only could get a 2008 plate with 60-70k on the clock but heard they are great fun.

I did want a ttrs or a c63 amg but these are a couple of thousand out of my price range.

Anyone had any dealings with these cars who could offer and advice, don't mind if it's a couple or convertible either.

Thanks

You know something that's not a bad shout, just looked and I could get a 2013 plate with low mileage. I know the early 335i suffered problems with the waste gate, are the 135i just the same engine or is there differences?

Also I see that focus rs's and vxr8's are in my price range. There's a few decent cars for that 17k Mark.

Dude RS mk2,so easy to mod, services are cheap and so is the road tax,I've a 2( a FW frozen white & a UG ultimate green). Loved them so much and is the best car I've owned or driven and I've owned some nice cars including a 61 plate m3 comp and a full fat Audi RS3,all the best with whatever you choose

I've heard that you can tune these to 400bhp quite easily, I do like the looks of the rs's the only thing that puts me off is the interior.

With £17000 you can pick up some thing very nice and there is plenty to look at so choose wisely, but choose BMW. Have fun with the hunting.

Yes I agree the interior isn't the best compared to full leather m sport spec Bmw ,but the recaros are class, the driver position. And the steering wheel and the clocks and gauges are class,so is the head unit that's if you manage to get a lux 2 model car. The engine, looks and the value you get is awesome and then there's the depreciation value, there isn't one lol they hold there money so good,on my last one I put a new inter cooler on,KMS full exhaust, and stage 1 map = 350 BHP :-)

Your really persuading me here lol. I think I will go and get a test drive of one. I need a drivers car again where I can have some fun so the rs could tick the boxes

You won't regret it,out of all the cars I've owned I would defo say this is the best drivers car I've ever owned, you really do feel as one with it,point it into a corner or a flip flop round a bout and you know your having the best fun ever, every time I saw my RS I couldn't stop smiling and when you drive you end up with jaw cramp form smiling too much
The m3 comp I owned was to computerised for me,think the RS spoilt it for me.
The RS3 was pure class but I missed the manual drive of the RS mk2,so sold up and bought a UG mk2 with only 7000 miles on it,loved it to bits and the RS forum is like a family,I only sold it to put a big chunk down on a house.

N55 is not more reliable than the N54. The N54 was a great block, its just BMW initially cheaped out on the surrounding components on the earlier models.

The N54 was always the engine of choice hence why it was used in the later 335is in the US. Pity it was never released here.

2nd the M135i shout. Got one myself 4 months back and I really can't fault it. Ok, so a little more rear leg room would be nice..but that's about it.
Personally, I wouldn't swap it for anything in the same class; RS3/A45/Focus RS/Golf R etc. The R was a close 2nd choice, but the 1ner just felt that little bit more special.

What makes u say that? My indy told me the n54 should be avoided because of all the issues they've seen with it over the years and yes all the ancillaries. N55 DCT I've been told is the way to go to avoid hefty repair / service bills where possible
