Nice write up and review.

So, did the oil lines disconnect pretty easily? I should have my PS2 next week; I'm thinking about purchasing the two coolant lines after reading your review.

I completed this install myself last week. For the coolant lines remove the turbo from the car before removing them. Soak them with pb blaster or whatever penetrant you have then wiggle them side to side to break the rust loose. Once you get them to move side to side start pulling while you continue to twist. you should have no problem reusing them if you do this.

Oil lines came out much easier. Just wiggle and pull and they will come out.

I would call the local dealership to see if they have the coolant lines In stock just in case. You may have better luck than me.

Also, the prior post has a great suggestion. Assuming they will not impact fitting the turbofold between the subframe and car, you can definitely try to take them off after you drop the turbo. I didn't even think of that!

Added torque spec pdf to OP. Should have all the factory torque values for the job.

I spoke to Jesse at Pure about the coolant lines. He mentioned to leave the top one attached then remove the turbofold. I might go ahead and replace the lines either way. I drive this car ALOT! Don't want something like a coolant line leaving me stuck on the side of the road. I'm two years in with this car and no flat bed; trying to keep it that way LoL.

Thanks for all the info. How's she running?

If you do it off the car, you honestly should be fine. The wear item is the o-ring, which you replace. The problem with removing them when on the car is there is very little room to work with and you can barely see that part of the turbo (at least on a 1er). I ended up using the hard portion of the upper pipe as a handle and it bent, but eventually it came loose.

Car is running absolutely great. Only been a couple thousand miles, but zero issues.

I removed the whole turbofold with both coolant lines still on. Still took me 2-3 hours to get them off the stock turbo. I HIGHLY recommend just getting new line from the start.

Thanks for sharing your input. I don't feel as bad for doing it the hard way and ruining them in the process. I wasted sooo much time trying to get those out and not damage them.

I wasted an hour trying to take them off on the car, then 2 more hours to get them off the turbo when off the car. I actually broke off the tab that hold one of them down. So spent an other hour fixing it and getting it on the new turbo.

Also, it is possible to get the turbo in with one person. I'm pretty weak, but was able to do it, just took me an hour and lots of rage.

Those dang coolant lines! I really hate them lol.

Wow, good job. I guess it's possible. But with an extra set of hands the manifold goes on in like 1min. Literally. I guess it's just easier. And you're not banging the turbofold all over the place trying to get it through the tight opening. At least that is what was happening when I tried to do it myself.

I kept both lines on the turbo until it was out of the car. It took me about 45 minutes to remove them both but it was a pain in the ass.

I took both lines off while in the car. Top one was a PITA, had to use a pry bar under the flange and tap with a hammer. It took a bit, but it came out. Bottom wasn't bad at all, just pry bar and some wiggling. That was in a car that was in Minnesota winters, so lots of salt and rust.

Going to add the keep the lines on the turbo method to my post.

So it sounds like hit or miss on whether or not the lines will come off without being damaged. But it is definitely clear, they are a PITA to remove! haha

Just a note, X-drive the turbo won't come out with the lines on it I don't think. I barely got the turbo out the way it was.

What did everyone pay to ship their turbo back to Pure? Rough estimates are around $80.

Any recommendations?

A BIG +1 ^
As I continue my "nightmare on jack stands" otherwise know as going from a completely stock 2011 335i xDrive to FBO w/PS 2 in my driveway, eleven of the manifold nuts were removed with stud still attached, one snapped requiring the weldment of a nut to complete the extraction. At this point I remembered weehe126's recommendation and ordered new oil and coolant lines in addition to fifteen studs! Weehee126''s "recommendation" is absolutely, one of the best suggestions/tips for anyone considering this project.
