2005 iDrive question

I'm looking at a 2005 330d with Sat nav Pro, Voice, BT, Assist & TV.

With it being a 2005 car I understand that it must be the first generation iDrive.

Could anyone please tell me if it would be possible to upgrade this unit to support the Google search features, send address to car etc? I don't think that the first gen iDrive has these features???

Is it just a case of a software upgrade or would I need different hardware?

Thanks,
Lee

You will need to replace the whole iDrive (CCC, controller and screen) with the new iDrive hardware and then code this new hardware to your car: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=454413

That's great! Thank you for your feedback.

I see that you have a 2008 E90 though, will this still work with a 2005 E90 do you know?

You will need to update the software of your 2005 to the latest possible first, before attempting to perform this swap.

OK well how do I do this. I haven't bought the car yet, its still in the dealership. All I have is the specs.

If only the garage can update the software then I could say that I will buy the car subject to BMW installing the latest software update.

If this is what I need to do what do I ask for? The latest iDrive software update?

You should ask if the car has the latest software update -for the whole car, not the iDrive. Your selling dealer is not obligated to perform this update without a valid fault/defect that can be fixed by this update.
