TMS 3.64 Diff?

Has any one installed the TMS 3.64 diff? What are your thoughts on it. Worth 2k?

TMS = Turner Motorsport?

If that's what you're referring to, the actual brand they retail is "OS Giken" and yes, they are high quality limited/no slip differentials.

NOTE: I don't currently have it installed, i just do a lot of research and have talked with people with that brand of LSD that all have positive things to say. -i hope this helps with your decision.

I dont have one, but think it depends on your driving style.

Stock 330i MT gear is perfectly set for freeway crusing in 6th gear to take advantage of the 3 stage intake's powerband.

3.64 diff will offset the powerband in 6th when you are in 70-80mph highway crusing.

however if you have a aggresive driving style, i think u will find it more entertaining.

another mod u can try is the lighter flywheel, which i might eventually get once my clutch wears out.

Yes the turner motorsport diff.... I have heard other things about the power band being messed up a bit in the high end. Should just increase the RPM's by a bit and be ok.

I don't know if an open diff with 3.64 gears is worth it for $2K

I have a Diffsonline LSD with 3.38 gears.

This is totally worth it! Fantastic in the way you get traction all the time. It transforms the way you can drive your car much more aggressively (the LSD, not the gears). If you're going to do the upgrade, make sure you do an LSD also. Gearing alone will not get you the traction or enhance the driving experience.

There are a couple of forum members that have 3.64 gears (do a search) and like it.

Personally, I wanted more of a balance of driveability and performance. The 3.38 gears really gave me that balance. Acceleration is stronger and cruising on the highway is very forgiving (cruising at 70-75mph I average about 28.5mpg).

On the track, it's a must have. I'm able to balance my car mid-turn the way it should be.

I don't agree that the stock gearing is "perfectly set" , also not sure that you know what your talking about when you say the 3.64 diff will off set the powerband in 6th . You drive a 328 correct?

Personally, if you aren't going to install an LSD, there is no point in changing differentials.

yes i got 328, but I got 3 stage intake.

what i mean "powerband" is that the 3 stage intake's first stage has peak torque around 2500-3100 rpm and that falls between 65-80mph in six gear. 3.64 will put you pass that range, 3100-3500 rpm is actually the transitional phases between first and second stage, which the torque band dip down a lot. its not that good to cruise in that range on the freeway in 6th gear.

I am palnning to do a LSD with the dif. Like you said no point to do it with out the LSD. I think 3.38 would do ok for what i am looking for. I just havent seen or heard of it.
